I always saw his warts, but I've never heard of this defensive collapse everyone is speaking of for this year or down season.

He shot and assisted and turnovered pretty much identically to how he had for the previous 2 years as he had this year.

Thought he played just fine so I'm not sure if this is our let's dump on a guy as soon as he's traded thing, but I thought he had a fine season.

This team went into the offseason with 2 needs, a big and a desperate need for a playmaking guard. I feared we'd just roll it back and ignore both needs but if we were to address them... I always figured we'd get one from a trade and the other from free agency. Looks like we addressed the big man one by trading Smart for a big. Here's hoping we get CP3 so we can address the playmaking issue that still exist or this trade won't really matter. That said.

... I'm just a bit shocked that when the trades came down to it the LAC wanted Brogdon until his medical scared him off.

And with Brad having either Smart or White to trade either no one wanted White or Brad picked Smart to trade.

I would have traded White instead but I am happy to break up the Smart-Brown-Tatum core.

Smart is an incredibly flawed player, and his flaws were magnified by being forced to lift a burden here that he never should have had to lift leadership wise or on the court playmaking wise. It was never Smart's fault, he was being asked to do too much because our stars weren't doing their jobs so he was trying to do their jobs in the end.

You can win with Smart, but as an off ball secondary playmaker. I hope Ja Morant plays this year and many years to come and wins a lot with Smart as Morant is that teams unquestioned leader and Smart thrives in his role as a secondary playermaker/role player in the offense where he belongs that can bring some chaotic energy to the game when it's needed on defense and offense. He can be their new Dillon Brooks or more accurately their first poor man's Draymond Green.

And I hope a lot like when we traded Walker and it forced Pierce to step up I hope this move forces Tatum to actually step up and be a leader and not skirt that responsibility forcing Smart do his job for him. A job he should have ripped from Smart years ago. Hopefully this leads to growth for Tatum as a player.

I hope it forces Tatum when he steps up to leader to no longer accept what he's done in the past as meaningful and maybe even ask ownership for a real coach because winning is what will matter to him first and foremost and not whatever bull he and Smart learned from Irving that seems to forever have poisoned them.

Almost want to cry man. He was one of my favorite Celtics of all time. Glad we are sending him somewhere good. This really sucks man we almost sent Brogdon and now it’s smart.

Replace "Tommy" with "Marcus" and it still rings true.

Damn, this one stings a bit. Mostly loved his contribution and always loved his heart.

With that being said, very interested in how things look going forward and it feels like moves are far from over.

Imo Smart is better than brogdon.

I assumr white is now the starter.

White/pritchard
Brown/white
Tatum
Zinger/grant?
Timelord/horford

Hate that smart is gone yet brown (whow as worse in playoffs) is still here and about to be paid 60 mill per seaso

SMH

What is you doing, Brad Stevens?!?!?!?!!!??

Ripped the engine right out of that Porsche GT3, and added a sweet set of new rims.

Massive massive loss for the Celtics dealing Smart. The engine. The heart and soul of the squad.

I am utterly disgusted.

And to deal him to Memphis, of all teams. That is a perfect fit for Memphis.

Maybe in time I'll be able to look at all the great years and moments we got from my favorite Celtic and be grateful we at least got that but right now I'm just dead inside. This is not how this story was supposed to end.

Best of luck Marcus.

On the floor he sometimes was far from playing Smart, but it was plain to see that Marcus always played all heart.

Thanks for the memories, and go show Dillon Brooks how it's supposed to be done.
