Smart-Ja backcourt isn't bad, so they'll play them together especially in the Playoffs. Memphis lost none in this deal and in anticipation of losing Brooks, who's not as half as smart.

Also think you have Smart and Jaren Jackson now.

That's two bonafide defensive player year candidates.
This is a huge upgrade to their defense. And Smart is good enough shooter to play the 2 and stretch the court.

Huge Win for Memphis who would have severely struggled with the absence of Ja Morant.

What? Marcus Smart did not receive a single vote for DPOY this season and a below-average 3-point shooter.

I remember when Phil wanted to teach KP a lesson by making him available via trade and Cs offered 3rd pick (Tatum) + a starter (Brown?) + a future 1st pick for him, I wanted Phil to do it. Damn it was just a scare tactic! We would have got Tatum, Brown !! But years later they really got him!

I was kinda shocked they traded Smart, he's like one of those players you think are gonna retire playing for just 1 team.

My first thought , how the hell Smart gonna look with Blue hair in Memphis

Second thought , Smart , Brooks and Ja , that’s a definition of a bad ass team

I don’t know who lost who won , gotta give a third thought , one thing is for certain , it’s gonna feel weird seeing Smart playing for any other team than Celtics

lol Grizz aren't bringing back Brooks

But yes I loved this trade for Grizz, they solved their PG hole as Ja is out for 25 games. They can play both him and Ja when he comes back, so Smart also replaces Brooks. They may have got better defensively even with departure of Brooks. Smart is also a very good vocal leader like Draymond, their thuggishness non sense and lost focus got the best of them in the playoffs, with Smart as their leader it's not happening, really great move for Grizz.

Why did MEM give up the best backup PG in the league plus two FRPs for a defensive specialist who can’t shoot when their starting PG is suspended for the first third of the season?

This is a weird trade.

It's only weird to you because you don't understand the value of Marcus Smart (and the limited value of Porzingis, too).

Trust me bro I was driving the don't trade Smart bandwagon....but I also didn't think he could pull a player of Porzingis' caliber, let alone with additional picks. This is an absolute steal for Boston.

This is an incredible move for the Celtics. Let's stop the nonsense and all admit that

This is a great trade for Boston. Excellent trade for Wiz and WTF for Memphis. JA not lasting long on the Grizz.

The wizards couldn't even get the 25th pick.

Just fold the franchise now that's a joke.

Great trade for Boston.

Decent trade for Memphis.

Terrible trade for Washington.

Smart is a nice player and he will help Memphis.

There is a legitimate lack of appreciation for what Porzingis is. He's just a really good player. He is the unicorn people hoped he would become. He has been healthy for a while now and still only 27. Washington gave him up for next to nothing.

I can understand taking little in return for Beal. His contract is an albatross and he had the NTC. I can't understand getting such a lousy return for Porzingis. Almost every team in the league should've been interested. How does Boston get those two picks instead of Washington?

Brad Stevens is ahead of the curve. Good on him.

Washington is obviously bottoming out, but Porzingis should've turned into a lot more draft capital.

This was a massive move. Makes the team more balanced. Plus most Celtics fans thinks Smart shouldn’t start and finish games. This move maximizes White’s potential.

Lol, not even close.

Will miss Marcus for sure and glad we’ll only have to play him twice a year.

He’s going to be a hell of a mentor for Ja and that in itself will be massive.

As a C’s fan, this trade was necessary even if painful.

Also, how the hell did Boston end up with picks and not Washington? What sort of rebuilding mode are they in?

100% agree, Beal makes sense but getting so little for KP is inexcusable

with that said, Smart (rightfully or not) was DPOY just a year ago
is getting the DPOY, in his prime and on a decent contract nothing?

Smart is worth more than an injury prone, one year rental KP

fwiw i'm not even saying he's the better player but his value is higher at this point in time

Lol get that heart and soul bull out of here. He's not a great player and he was taking the ball out of your 2 franchise players hands. How they'll have a clear identity, it's tatum and Browns team. Not bum ass smart. Not even a Celtics fan but seeing smart trying to take over playoff games in the fourth was infuriating. Reminds me of FVV in Toronto but he has even less offensive ability to try that ****. Great deal for Washington and Boston. Tyus is a stud himself.

Brogdon moves to the starting PG slot, a more natural PG which the Celtics desperately need who doesn't take five ill-advised 3s a game. Moving on from Smart was the right move.

Brogdon
Brown
Tatum
Kristaps
Horford

Ridiculous combination of size, spacing, and mobility.

Brogdon is not a natural PG. He is extremely robotic and formulaic as a PG. He can run your plays and be a solid player on the court but do not expect him to do anything out of the ordinary. He also plays at a rather slow pace (which the Celtics may be fine with) and is a pretty bad point-of-attack defender. He doesn't have the mobility to guard opposing PGs.

Brogdon is much, much better as an off-ball player. He is an excellent shooter, a capable secondary playmaker and he can actually defend bigger guards and wings much better than he can defend PGs.

He's good player to have on your team if healthy but you do not want him to be your main ball-handler and facilitator.

Or use those picks to flip Jaylen for BI. Make it happen!!!

The problem is that Boston doesn't have enough minutes at the small guard spots. They already have Brogdon, White and Payton Pritchard and all of them need minutes.

Exactly accurate!
Heart and soul my ass!!! Those are for freakin losers getting attached emotionally to players, and overrate them. I agree, Tatum and Brown should be the vocal leaders in order for the team to be better.

This would make a lil more sense had the Wizards nabbed the picks. Jones is a fine player and all but cmon.

Crazy how so many of you are overrating Smart. He had two years to be THE guy at the point guard slot. He shot well below average (41% FG and 33% 3FG), his passing was fine but 6 assists per game isn't exactly elite when you're a pass first PG. His defense is terribly overrated, he blows coverages, goes for gambles, flops all over the place and he's a below average rebounder.

I like his tenacity and grit but at the same time he is erratic and he can be a black hole on both sides of the floor.

Thanks for everything Mahcus but the time had come to mix it up. Good on ya Brad.

ALSO: pretty sure Brad is not done here. Expecting him to be active at the draft too.
