Honest question - doesn't Sasser in many ways replicate what we already have in Maxey, or can Sasser play PG? Or is the idea to get off Maxey before we have to pay him?
Maxey has obviously surpassed predraft expectations, however he is a good defender in spurts (particularly the Celtics series), and a great catch and shoot 3pt shooter. Better around the rim.
Sasser is an absolute menace on defense. Creates his own threes and shoots at an excellent clip given 32% of them are unassisted. Better handler.
They're the same age, so who knows what Maxey would have done at Kentucky; could have been similar stats. But my predraft takeaway from both is Sasser has a more complete game.
I love Sasser just from the few times I've seen him. Would you look to move Maxey if you could get Sasser? He just seems like a cheaper and possibly better version.
I mean, cream rises to the top. If he can show he has the upside to be a better player than Maxey while playing off the bench next year, then I'd eventually move Maxey. I think we're going to give Maxey a sizable contract regardless of what happens this offseason, but he'll always have value since he's young and already a 20+ ppg scorer with a great work ethic and personality.
The way I see it, Maxey's ceiling is Beal and Sasser's is Lillard (I know I said Rozier for Sasser on the last page, but that's a mid tier version of him.). Both all-stars, but you need to attain that level. We won't know what Sasser is until he hits the league.
But having someone who can score like Maxey come off the bench would never be a bad thing. Especially if he's elite defensively. We could have used that in this past playoffs, lol.
