Cronin: “We were too small and too young, we’re going to fix that”
Also Cronin: gets younger and smaller.

Good chance for management to earn their keep with these next two picks, btw.

That’s fair.

Again, it’s the right draft pick, unquestionably. I’m just so torn with emotions with the frustrations that the team seems to be doing the opposite of what they said they would and that this very likely could be the end of the Dame era… but I have no question how good Scoot will be and I think he and Shaedon will be soooooo much fun together. I would genuinely be excited to see the keys handed over to them.

I'm actually more excited about a possible Scoot shaedon back court than dame shaedon. Dame is clearly the best of that bunch but I like how Scoot and shaedon line up in age and athleticism. I think Scoot has great potential as a 2 way player which is something Dame, Whether due to coaching or skill set, never played D. Shaedon has the size to be a great defender as well

I genuinely am with you on that.

At this point, with Cronin pretty clearly signaling tonight what’s to come, I hope they trade Dame. Cash out, give him a chance to win somewhere and end things on a good note, then let these young guys cook and hope in maybe 2 years to be where OKC is.

If you don't think there's a place for Dame anymore with Scoot coming in, I think you underestimate both players.

Scoot, Simons, Dame and Sharpe...4 headed monster. Get creative with coaching, make it work Chauncey!

Oh look, I think they could definitely play together. I actually think their games complement each other well since they're sooo different of players. But it's an undersized backcourt again and it's going against exactly Dame's wishes, full stop.

I make no secret I'm disappointed by the draft night (not the draft choices itself), there's still the FA period where things may still happen... we'll see. Maybe he can still pull out some sort of Ant and Nurk deal for a veteran big? But yeah, it's just hard to see how Cronin can sell this to Dame as something to stick around for.

I think it could work for 2 years maybe with Scoot being a marcus smart sort of backup giving us defensive intensity off the bench. But if his star grows inevitably we may need to open up that roster spot for Scoot to start

Lol. Yeah I get dame wanting to win but he really put us in a bind. Of course it's portland so we would've wasted it anyhow

Seems like he's either all talk or one foot out the door. Either way I hope we don't give up scoot

I think it’s the latter.

My opinion is what it always has been. Scoot is only available if an all star vet is available. It’s possible that’s just not there and won’t ever be there.

I guess we will see what they can do with Ant and Nurk now? But Cronin didn’t come away from this draft unlocking their first rounders with Chicago, so they’ll be limited going all in that way (still). Basically the only options at Portland’s disposal is those two and the TPE from GP.

I suppose Portland can still do an all in with future picks if they just make the Chicago pick unprotected next year, then you can do the swap and pick back and forth for 4 years? Still tho, just don’t know what deal would be out there at this point.

Just keep going back to with Cronin. They had talks about KP, the talk of KP for 3 is ridiculous, but they couldn’t have revisited that after Beal was moved and the team was in firesale mode? Just feels like other teams GM feel like Cronin can be exploited left right and center. All the rumors you hear Portland involved in are ludicrously lopsided, then deals that get made players are getting moved for peanuts.

Yep. It's incredible he would do that since the season starts tomorrow and no other moves are happening. Conin is such an idiot!

And we couldn't have traded for KP because we didn't have the contracts. It would have had to be Nurk plus Simons and both those guys have 3 more years on their deals and Washington didn't want that much salary. They'd have been ok with Simons probably, but not Nurk.

KP does not make us a winner either, that would have been a bad move IMHO.

If we blow it up I’d probably be fine with trading Dame to Brooklyn for as many picks as possible, then working a S&T with Grant to either the Bulls for Lonzo+Patrick Williams, Brooklyn for more picks, or Miami for expirings + picks, something like that.
