Kind of a rich man's Caleb Houstan.

That's not going to work for me. How about a poor-man's JR Smith instead?

Will you compromise, sir?

5. Anthony Black, 19, 6-7 Fr. PG, Arkansas

I am possibly irrationally out over my skis here, but I love this guy. Black reminds me of Jason Kidd at times, a big, smart, defensively active guard who impacts winning in so many other areas that the lack of a jump shot becomes secondary. Black is also among the younger players in this cohort, with an early 2004 birthdate, and thus time is on his side when it comes to finding his stroke.

Black is a huge point guard who could potentially also play on the wing but moves his feet well enough on the perimeter that he can legitimately guard the one at the pro level. He combines that with some quick leaping, zipping off the ground to surprise shooters with shot contests and using verticality in the basket area very effectively.

Offensively, I’ve been a big fan of Black all year because he can handle, pass and make correct decisions. His handle can get a little wobbly at times, especially in his right hand, and he made too many turnovers overall, but some of that stems from his limited shooting forcing him to drive into the teeth of the defense.

Black has a slow release, a pronounced ball dip and seemingly not a ton of confidence in the entire enterprise, but we’re not talking about DeAndre Jordan here: Getting his shot to at least a 1-in-3 proposition in a two-year span shouldn’t be a massively daunting task.

If he can do that, his size, feet and IQ should more than take care of the rest and make him a fixture in the league for years.

I felt like I was looking at a Jason Kidd-Anderson Varejao in a PG's body in some of Black's highlights. I do love Hollinger, so who knows.

Because OWNERSHIP want money. Thats why.

To clarify, this was an ownership move. Weltham would have had no input into this.

Magic ownership is quietly bottom-5 in the nba with some of the recent.. departures. Literally trying to compete with slightly less assets than other teams by design. I'm kind worried what would happen when we finally build a team that would cost a lot of $ to keep together.

Isnt our ownership group one of the richest in the league? And based on history, not blinking in paying the big bucks to players??? I would expect the same when we are competing again.

Knightro wrote:At this point, I would strongly consider repurposing the Gary Harris money on Grant Williams in free agency.

The Magic need another shooter in the rotation. Okeke and Bol aren't rotation players and Isaac can't be relied upon.
I think Weltman said something about Harris in the news conference

I'm not barfing but I'm still not happy about it. Then again my ability to be unhappy had to be kind of spread out after the Howard pick.

I'm still barfing. I don't like Black as a player for us, BUT what's making me barf even more is Fultz Suggs and Cole are all on the record saying how much they love Orlando and how good the organization has been to them. Now 1 or maybe 2 of them are going to get bounced somewhere else and is going to be a nice example to Paolo and Franz on why being "loyalty" means nothing

I knew nothing about these guys but they make sense as WeHam picks. No obvious stars so go with smart, versatile, big players and hope for the best. Maybe they surprise everyone like they did the last couple years. Or maybe not. Who knows.

They’re now on the clock to find shooting and some rebounding in free agency. Can they at least do that?

BTW... anyone else think that the 2 players we drafted are on the "slim" side aka stick thin? I mean compared to the past where Paolo and Houstan had some "meat" or even Suggs and Franz...

Are you saying this because you legitimately like the picks? Or are you saying this because it’s wishful thinking?

Will this thread be bumped if Dick or Bufkin turn out to be absolute monsters?

It's weird everyone's frame of reference for any player are former Magic ones. I remember a few people calling Doncic "Hezonja".

I laugh at the fact that Weltman is bringing up that guys injuries like he found a hidden gem. He was projected to go 25th, and you took him at 11th. If you knew an injury was effecting his game, isnt the smart move to trade down and get value out of a reach? the guy makes no **** sense sometimes

I think if I go to University of Michigan....I have a good chance of being drafted by the Magic.

jesus man.....get used to it....it's business, plus with the way the CBA is set up now? you didn't think we'd be able to keep everyone did you? i REALLY didn't want vuc to go BUT everyone should understand it's a business...when you have to make a tough decision that shouldn't be a surprise....sometimes things work out sometimes it doesn't but things like this happen all the time....got to learn to take your emotions out of it

wouldnt it make more sense to Fultz to be moved? since they are so alike

no baby....why would we get rid of our Lord and Father Markelle?

Cole can pack his bags. And that is more of a demand than a suggestion.
