Re: The Jett Howard Thread
Unless his ankle injury hid the fact that he was Jcrawford like with handles everything else is pretty much blah.
He doesn't look very explosive, laterally or straight to the basket. He doesnt crash the boards, he doesn't rack up assist or steals, he pretty much sits at the 3 point line if the ball isn't in his hand or the play isn't being ran for him. He scored 8 points cutting all season. He doesn't draw much contact, even less then Gradey.
I truely hope I am wrong, but nothing really stood out, statistically or visually imo. Maybe they had him in for private workouts and his handle was insane and more advanced then what we can see with a few highlights.
I just dont see him being better then Hawkins (or Gradey) who could create his own offense. So let's hope he has a bag we don't know about. I will root for him, just suprised.

He will have to work his ass to get better on defense and I think they will use him in a way that highlights the way he gets off his threes compared to Hawkins/Gradey.
If they don't, that's obviously an issue and would make you question why they chose him, but they may have some good ideas.

Its not exactly a reach reach. The guy was invited to the green room.
He was there because there was enough teams that expected him to go lottery.

“The angle and contortion on his ankle with wide dribble seal spins” IDFK… according to Bilas Not a good defender doesn’t rebound doesn’t pass a lot..apparently doesn’t cut to the basket. I’ll pull for him to be successful for the sake of the team but he looks slow unathletic and one dimensional. I would rather they pick Jordan Hawkins if the didn’t want Gradey Dick

Yea, but just invetation doesn't mean that anybody expected him to be lottery pick. Matter of fact, when you invite 25 people and you only have 30 first round picks, you covered 83% of first round, assuming all of them would be selected in first round.

Re: The Jett Howard Thread
I’ve been begging Weltman to draft someone that can shoot threes so there’s at least that. My concern is I’m not sure this dude brings enough else to the table that any kind of shooting will be enough for him to be a quality role player and be worth playing.
At least he fills a need, but I’m not excited. Not gonna knock it too hard without giving him a chance, but I can’t muster up any sort of hype or excitement for this guy.

Watching these Howard highlights, he is legit he has game. He is better than Okeke or Caleb. Okeke is a center in a forward's body and Caleb is just a catch and shoot guy.
Jett looks like a legit NBA wing.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Caleb's arhytype and Jett are very similar. Both players are flat out unathletic by nba standards. And both can't rebound but should be good shooters. Difference being, Houstan was never actually good shooter anywhere. hopefully Jett can come off bench for Magic and make some shots.
But drafting 11th for bench player without much upside is ... waste of pick. To say a least.
Best case Cam Johnson? Becomes trade asset later. Cam worked well for Suns because Ayton could pull rebounds (and he can also defend really well). Jett struggled on defensive end even at college. A lot.

Jett is bettee than caleb. Sheesh.
Caleb is basically a stationary shooter.
Jett is better and can shoot off the dribble.
Yes, he isnt athletic or flashy. But i think he’d do ok as a 3rd option. Can run pick and roll and create his own shot.

Re: The Jett Howard Thread
I think two things will ultimately determine his future:
1. Being "passable" as a defender
2. Improve rebounding
His role otherwise is to snipe, move the ball which he's decent at (can stand to be less selfish at times), and that's it. That or he has to play with a great rebounder, but we don't have many of those.

It's same arhytype of unathletic 6'8 guy who is shooter.
he will be more likley our 6th or 7th option since team will still have : Banchero, Suggs, Fultz, Fanz, Black, Wendell, (Cole?).
In general Magic now have army of players that "could run pick&roll" but have nobody to run with but Wendell (who isn't elite at it ).
Imo, at the end of a day, guy is reach because of fetish Weltman has for kids of former players and Michigan players. And just fact that there were Dick, Cam Whithmore , Hawkins makes it worst. Because there was objective scenario where you could trade something down to 20-30 range and still get Jett if you wanted him.
