There is a famous clip (in coaching circles) of a like 70 year old Hubie Brown (with Memphis) explaining that they can get anyone to >35% three point shooting, provided they are in the corner with their feet set. The problem he explains, is that a low iq player submarines their 3pt% with taking off platform shots and hunting hero plays. My optimism in a guy like Jackson is he is a NBA athlete, a NBA passer, and he doesn’t take dumb shots. Ive played and coached for decades and what kills you is the player who takes bad shots and makes bad decisions. A lesser shooter like Jackson who doesn’t
force bad shots is totally playable.

God...some of you are so exhausting. If you cannot be even a little glass is half full on draft night, then what's the point of being fans?

Are we certain “he can’t shoot” is actually a fair assessment?

He can't shoot.

A poor man's Michael Kidd Gilchrist?

MKG maybe had the worst shot mechanics I've ever seen, so I don't think it's that bad. Silver lining I guess, but his jumper being broken might just make it better/easier to completely tear it down and and rework his entire shot motion. That's pretty much the only glaring red flag in preventing him from being a Day 1 rotation guy though. I like the pick. He was on the shortlist of guys I thought would be the best value picks if we moved up into the early-2nd. If he can become even a serviceable corner 3 guy, he's Bruce Brown with a better handle.

If we are going to rely on marjon or this young man as our starter at the 2 according to some posters we are in trouble but highlights show a good D guy (ben simmons clone)

Also, I've never seen him play so I could be off with my analysis.

You have a guy who cant shoot starting at the 2 spot comeon dude

They also said Magic Johnson couldn’t shoot.

Jackson’s shot has come a long way from high school. I remember he was a very high priority recruit for syracuse. It was scary bad back then. It’s very bad still but it’s progress.

At any rate, I think it’s possible to play around his lack of shooting ability but it’s definitely a major wart which is why he was in the second round.

This pick has GM Giannis written all over it.

After watching more Youtube videos than I care to admit.. I'm getting Lonzo Ball and Ben Simmons vibes.

Jackson and Jrue guarding on the perimeter will be fun to watch.

MCW was as dumb as they come with the ball in his hands.

So MCW was athletic, tall, good defense. Broken shot and bad bbiq.

our guy has the athletic, tall, good defense, and excellent BBIQ. (but the broken shot). Is that closer?

He's more Iggy than MCW, imo.

I don't know much about this guy, but could he have a young Marcus Smart level influence on the team? Smart was a poor shooter initially but worked to become serviceable. Did a bit of everything else.

More speaking stylistically, with similar limitations coming out of college. Iggy was a better scorer and free throw shooter, but he and Jackson are both big, smart, insanely athletic playmakers that crash the boards and play D. Iggy only shot 27% from 3 in college, yeah he turned out OK.

Oh this was interesting to read.

https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-andre-jackson-jr-2023-nba-draft

The Hornets essentially received the latter pick for trading the draft rights to Jalen Duren; one that the Hornets will now use to select UConn Huskies playmaker Andre Jackson Jr. at pick No. 27.

That said, what has never changed is the need for teams to have players with a high basketball IQ, the ability to defend at a high-level and the confidence to step up in key moments.

These are the areas where Jackson thrives the most.

Andre Jackson Jr. is Andre Iguodala reborn

6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Jackson makes winning plays on both ends of the court. Averaging 6.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 29.1 minutes per game for the Huskies in 2022-23, the 21-year-old was instrumental in UConn's ability to win the 2023 National Championship.

Jackson's not a player with a scoring mindset, as his averages and efficiency (42.8 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from 3) underscore.

In fact, Jackson's a player with a skillset and playstyle not unlike that of former NBA wing Andre Iguodala...
