I dont understand. Clearly the deals are there, the guy is not giving anyone a guarantee that he’s re-sign. You really think it would have been different 4 months ago??

The deadline deals had an unknown pick package that would obviously be impacted by Siakam being traded, devaluing the picks. A Sharpe and picks package isn't really moving the needle.

The known pick at 3 made it a real offer worth looking at. The deal got far enough along that Siakam's team needed to get something out there to let everyone know his position (which we didn't get at the deadline). The only actual info you can put some faith in that we were actually looking to potentially pull the trigger.

Which I can personally guarantee he won't do.

Barring a massive injury, he won't be worth any less a year from now than he would have been had he signed now. His dollar value can only go up significantly or stay the same.

He has no incentive to sign now.

Siakam and OG trade values were/are even lower then at the deadline. The only one who didn’t realize/know this was Masai, and that’s because there is less time on their contracts and everyone saw that these guys couldn’t even win a play-in (even after adding help)

Pending free agents don’t hold much value. Part of the reason the Raptors got Kawhi on the cheap.

No matter how I look at it, this situation is not favorable to the Raptors. Masai likely just runs it back because it's the path of least resistance now, not because he truly wants to.

Free Agency hasnt even started. I was surprised there were trades made by any team at draftnight at all. So maybe keep your "crap" to yourself until you start throwing an embarassing tantrum. Patience is a virtue.

Perhaps he has now realized that some pieces will be easier to move once locked in to new contracts?

Assuming they won't go into the tax in 2024-25 (a safe assumption), the math doesn't work to have FVV, Barnes, Poeltl, Siakam, OG and GTJ still on the team, with the latter 3 all having new contracts that kick in that season. You'd also have a big Scottie extension looming. It's just not feasible at the numbers we think they are all going to get.

This is what happens every year.

First, it's the summer just started. Then at the end of summer, it's let's give them into the season. Then into the season, it's let's give them until the deadline. Then at the deadline, it's let's wait until summer. Then summer comes and goes and rinse wash repeat.
