he better be good at something at his stature if he wants to make the NBA. yes height matters but if that is not your strong suit, if you can get away defensively and not be bullied while contributing to some sort of elite attribute, offensively, you'll get a chance in this league.

I think his height is less of an issue as a backup PG, which should be the role he plays...

There have been a grand total of 2.

You guys just complain for the sake of complaining. Just watch summer league and hope for the best.

Not to mention that they just drafted a 6-8 and a 6-5 lead guard in the 2nd round only two years ago.

Yeah like wtf

How anyone can look at FVV and think that was a failure is a **** idiot, full-stop. UDFA who was a key cog in a championship and made an all-star game is like top 0.1% of players who are undrafted.

We complained that all we did was draft 6'9" guys but now our last 2 years we have grabbed a 5'8" PG undrafted, a 7'1" defensive cetner, a 6'8" shooter, and also grabbed Dowtin/Harper as 2-ways last year.

Like these posters are clueless.

The play right before half that starts at 1:05 of this video is just so impressive. Kentucky is playing the clock, and blitz him with two defenders above the 3-point line, trying to take the ball out of his hands so it ends up with a lesser playmaker with almost no time on the clock. He calmly sniffs it out, gets around both guys, then draws a third defender and finds a wide open teammate cutting to the hoop for a buzzer beating lob dunk. Unbelievable poise and overall court sense on that play.

Yeah, it's going to be a lot harder to get those passes off vs NBA players. But, he's definitely elite at passing at the college level. If his shot gets to the point you have to respect it, he's going to be good.

if he can do that against NBA level defense, that will be dope.

I like this signing. It's a low risk, high reward type deal.

If he can translate that playmaking game to the NBA level? We're laughing. If he can't? It's an NBA 2-way contract. He can sit in the G league, or get cut. It costs us nothing.

Meant it more so that complaining about the "infatuation" with little point guards is strange. AKA FVV and Nowell.

I for one think our team would be better off if our undrafted players ended up like our small guard history.

He's from NYC too, love me some NY guards.

I want FVV gone as much as the next guy but saying Nowell can do X, or Y, better than Fred already is just blind hatred at this point. There is a less than 1% chance he even has 1/4th the career Fred has had thus far.

I love this pick-up because the skill is clearly there, just a question if it will translate to the next level. He'll always be a liability on defense though but if he can make up for it other ways who knows

A positive note for Nowell is that he has shown improvement in his overall game every single year. First year after transfer to KState finished with a 6.3 BPM and then brought it up to 9.6 his senior season culminating in a great tournament run.

You have Fred last year who after being called out had a career high 28.1% AST% whereas Nowell is a guy whose AST% is going to hover around 40+.

Obviously the rebounding is poor and shot blocking non-existent, key for Nowell aside from overcoming NBA length will be to shoot the 3 with a lot more consistency because it has hovered between 30 and 39% on volume during his college career.

The 2 point % is just really bad and he will need to limit his attempts from that range which might also bring his ftR way down in the NBA and his great FT% won't really matter as much, this could hinder his TS%. Any time he puts it up from 2 point range is a bad possession so he needs to figure this out quickly unlike FVV who thinks he's Tony Parker.

Overall I'm not that hopeful but at the same time he has shown improvement and you want to bet on him so seeing if he can keep improving enough to where he might be a viable backup PG down the line is worth it. Give him a year in the g-league.

There are no more 5'8 players in the league getting minutes.

That being said, at least he passes the ball. He could be fun to watch on a team that looks to move the ball and get everyone involved.
