I understand that aspect of things. But historically, guys like this do stay. I understand not every guy will want to.
Some teams like OSU with neighboring states loaded with talent and tons in their own can pass on guys if they like somebody else and not care. A school like Wisconsin probably needs the top guys to at least have a core of high 3/4-star players in place. Maybe not, though.
I think you want to keep your school as the in-state destination for every time that a Joe Thomas/Melvin Gordon become available.
We're kind of talking about different sides of it here, but you want to keep the state pipeline because if things go awry out of state (which probably will be a common thing at Wisconsin) you at least have your 4-5 solid guys to build a class around and maybe that twice/decade elite player.
