2023 Free Agency

Post#1 » by yosemiteben » Sat Jun 24, 2023 3:55 am

Guess we should start this. Lay out your scorching hot takes.

My lukewarm prediction - so long PJ, hello Harrison Barnes.

Why not both? I saw Plowrights tweet. It'd be disastrous to lose PJ to sign Barnes.

I predict we resign Miles, PJ, and sign Patrick Beverley to give this team some kind of edge.

Pat Bev sounds like a great idea!

He did a pretty good job in Minnesota with that culture. It all fell apart after he left to,

I think he might be the best we can get for changing the culture.

I expect to be revolted with PJ Washington's contract. Like the guy but I'm worried Mitch will pay him like a 3rd starter or something

I think they extend Melo, and re-sign Miles and PJ

I expect them also to re-sign DSJ

and that'll be all the room at the Inn

Ideally PJ Washington is a bench forward. He's not worth starter money with his current skillset. He needs to watch a lot of Draymond Green film and morph into that type of player based on his size and skillset. He needs to get nasty, and get way better on defense.

The Hornets giving PJ a 4/92 million contract is the most predictable thing ever. I just hope its not more than 20. Realistically though, it will be in the 20-25 range per year

Gary Trent Jr opted into 18 million because the FA market doesn't look great.

PJ is restricted, so we can take our time and see if anyone is feeling froggy about offering him a lot.
My guess is we will be surprised that he isn't more sought after, but could be wrong.

What's consensus on bringing back DSJ to be full time backup PG?

I personally love DSJ. My only fear is he may have played his way out of affordability. If we could get him back at a reasonable rate would love to lock him up.

I'm down if the price is right. He's the kind of bench defender they need to be prioritizing

I wouldn't do a long-term deal, but yeah definitely a good option for next season.

I'd prioritize a better offensive player who can push Rozier off the ball full time, with DSJ as more of a situational backup/3rd stringer.

DSJ should be a priority for us along with Miles and PJ, as long as the contract is reasonable.

He and Mark Williams seems to have a bond. Mark retweeted this and this isn't the first time he shared a DSJ tweet/highlight.

Hopefully da key is only found after our contract negotiations with him.

Might be unpopular, but I would bring back Oubre if the number on the contract is reasonable. Something like what he has been getting I could get behind.

Let's get more specific. Would you want to give DSJ an MLE level deal or is that too much?

I don't know how I feel.

For me, it's super dependent on how the offseason shakes out. I may be one of the only ones that think DSJ is worth the full MLE (11MM or so) but I wouldn't do it with the way the current roster is constructed. Too much cap for too few minutes. If Rozier is moved for some sort of vet presence + 2nds, Oubre is kicked to the curb, etc., and DSJ is then locked into the 8-9 man (Melo, Miller, Miles, Hayward, Williams, Richards, Washington, DSJ, Martin) I would easily do it. Just at this point with Rozier on the team and Oubre perhaps on the team, I just don't know where the minutes are going to come for that 11mm. I'm not paying 11mm for 12-15 minutes a game, but would pay less.
