made me think of Rodman but more athletically fluid and bouncy
and has decent enough mechanics for a solid jumpshot

easy for me to see him with a defensive role right away

starting to really like this pick

And Ja put up very similar numbers as a collegiate freshman (compared to JD as a freshman). Just because JD was the ~50th doesn't mean he wouldn't have been a top 3 pick in this year's draft, it also doesn't mean he shouldn't have been a top 3 pick in last year's draft.

But clearly, I'm not about to make that argument, and clearly stats don't tell you everything and are useless unless properly analyzed.

ofc, the effectiveness of actually scouting players is also dependent on analysis, stats give an objective reference point.

I am actually skeptical of Miller's future just because there is such a big discrepancy in statistical production versus draft stock, something or another must have scared teams away from him.

But if he went top 20 he would have been my early guess for steal of the draft, for a guy at his age, his physique etc to put up those stats, is really elite stuff.

Yeah, I saw that, watched it for about 10 minutes. Someone in the chat wrote he'll wear #27. Didn't hear him say that, so maybe he said it earlier in the stream.

Anyone can pass the ball around the perimeter

I think it's pretty important - especially for a team (like the Celtics) that really struggled quite a bit last season with having good enough flow/rhythm on offense.

Too often our offense got stagnant, with 1 guy going iso (or jacking up an ill advised 3 early in the shot clock) and the other 4 guys just standing there watching. Especially when we had a double digit lead, and especially during the 4th quarter of close games.

celticfan42487 wrote:Anyone can pass the ball around the perimeter

Of course. But if all you do is pass the ball around the perimeter, you're not creating any advantage.

Players who play .5 basketball, have fast processing speed, make quick/smart reads and are good connective passers - they don't just pass the ball around the perimeter. They make passes which create an advantage. The "playmaking upside" section of that video I posted - every one of those passes creates an advantage. They all lead to a basket for his team. They're not just passing the ball around the perimeter.

Of course, not every pass will lead right to a basket. After all, Walsh's assist % wasn't *that* high. But he also has lots of hockey assists (makes the pass that leads to the pass that leads to the basket. Or, he simply makes a pass that might not even necessarily create an advantage - but if he makes the pass quick enough - and to the right teammate - and the pass is crisp and accurate enough - it will help keep the offense flowing and in a good rhythm. And you want to do all of this, without turning the ball over (MIller is more turnover prone than Walsh).

This is all part of connective passing (D-White is a master at it, btw). IMO, Walsh is better at this particular skill (and also a better cutter) than Miller. That combination (along with being comparable to Miller as a shooter) has me feel like Walsh could be more useful on offense for this Celtics team than Miller. Not to mention, Walsh is already used to a lower usage role from this past season at Arkansas - it might be more of an adjustment for Miller, since he had a much higher usage role this past season.

Then of course, there's the edge Walsh has on defense..

All good, man. It's a fun discussion :)
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

And hell with the way Stevens trades it tells you if he could he'd rather have a stick of gum than a draft pick.

I don't think he views any of these prospects in the draft, the ones he walked away with or the ones he traded away or the ones he walked away with as anything more than 5% chance or worse of being worth jack ****.

He doesn't even want to have a first rounder because then he can't just cut the player flat out if he wants to for roster space to sign a vet min player, nor does he think their future is bright enough to be worth the luxury tax payment increase instead of just picking 1 of the other 50 other options on a cheaper contract.

I tend to agree with Brad. Outside of the top 15 it's mostly nothing, just go for high upside if you can but often there's not even upside there.

Here's a summary from another site that shall not be named:

Summary of what he said: He'll be in Boston tomorrow & can't wait to play in front of what he called the craziest fanbase in the NBA. Confirmed he'll play in summer league and will wear #27. Is banned on Call of Duty (lol). Mentioned Al Horford reached out to him when asked ab which Celtics he already spoke to. Said he's super excited to work out with JT & JB, a little bummed Marcus left cause he really wanted to play with him as they're both Dallas kids & defensive specialists. His idol growing up was KD, and when asked to compare himself to current NBA players he named Herb Jones and Lu Dort as similar players. Said the biggest thing he brings to the Celtics is his ability to guard 1-4 and his consistency. If he didn't play basketball he said he'd have been a really good baseball pitcher.

Agreed with all of that.

And the 6'6" is without shoes. With shoes (which is what the NBA goes by on their rosters) he's 6'7".

Can pass ? Not even one assist per game in 36 game playing 24 mpg ? 3.9 rebounds is a good rebounder? Only thing he was good at was defense and steals I watched and watched way to hesitant to shoot even when open? Look for a second rounder ok but saying dude can pass with not one assist per game makes no sense unless your talking about his hockey assist passes I've seen two games where his outlet looked good dude didn't want the ball in his hands the passes I seen were immediately passed on to the next guy. Defensive looks good but he is never going to be a star probably a defensive rotation guy is his ceiling.

4rbs in 24 isn't bad but could be better for his length. he has more than hockey assists but I'm not going to look for you. he has a couple 9+ minute videos out there, they show a few different things that show he has it, but needs refinement.

The one thing that you are definitely right about, he is KO early career level of hesitant. when he doesn't hesitate, he looks good, too bad hesitation is option 1 & 2 for him.

Per 40, 1.5 assists vs 1.7 turnovers. That's fine. It's not impressive considering he wasn't too much of a scorer, but it's fine for a freshman wing, especially where his teammates weren't great shooters etc.

As a random comparison, freshman Kelly Oubre posted 1.5 assists to 2.3 TOs. Freshman Jaime Jaquez posted 2 to 2.2.

Jaquez actually looks like a solid statistical comparison fwiw.

granted these are highlight reels but yea the ball movement looks really good and there are some very nice assists which for me demonstrates strong bbIQ and ability to see the whole floor

I'm telling you, this guy will have a role for us right away ...look at his lateral movement ! and length and how he uses it
he is also bouncy and smart, moves the ball. he will get mins this year

By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever. That kind of thing my dude or like your are who you hang out with.
