It's difficult because it's not that I had Dick or Hawkins tiers above Jett, I just believe that NBA people/scouts did and wish we could have leveraged that knowledge and acquired additional assets to move up while still drafting our guy.

As a smaller marker team, we need to always be two steps ahead and maximize the assets we can possibly acquire. My issue with how Weltman has historically played the draft since coming here, is that I do not believe he always does that.

Outside of that though, I was on record for being a massive Black fan pre-draft. I think the feel is incredible and having guys with passing skills and court vision like Paolo/Wagner/Fultz/Suggs/ and Black playing serious rotational minutes for us is going to make for some beautiful basketball. It took a long time for me to warm up to Weltman's vision for this team, but he's won me over.

I’m fine with Black.

But Jett came from the left field. I totally understand why though. We need a shooter and Jett is perhaps the best iso shot creating shooter available.

I just hope Jett is the type of reach that some critics think management should do if they believe a player is really good. As a poster once said “that’s the job they are paid to do”.

I liked the Black pick. Made 100% sense at #6.

Only guy I was really high on at #11 was Bufkin.

I wasn’t a huge Gradey Dick or Jordan Hawkins guy to begin with.

The Fo just needs to make moves now.

My biggest disappointment is that I will never hear Paul Porter scream “GRADEY DICK!!!!” in his unique special cheesy way.
It is a wound that will never heal.

It is still quite possible the Magic make a trade for Simons. Indeed Portland understands more clearly what the Magic assets are moving forward.

I would guess at this point a Simons trade would be about gaining a starting-capable PF. If he is medically clear, that could for example be a Simons for Isaac swap, maybe with Okeke added.

Simons and Reddish for Isaac, Anthony, and Okeke seems reasonable to me.

None I paid no attention to college basketball this year. I don't know who the guys that they drafted are. I've read about some of the attributes of the new players and it seems like a disaster but things rarely play out like that. We'll see what happens the closer we get to the season. I anticipate moves to be made and even if they aren't just knowing who is on the team might fill in some blanks.

I get what you’re saying, but it takes two to tango, ya know?

Literally no teams between pick 12 and pick 31 moved up.

You just can’t force a team to give up assets when they’re content to stay where they are.

I'm fine with how the draft went. But I wanted Ausar and Grady.

We obviously couldn't take Ausar, and I think Grady's personality was a possible turn off for our FO. Or maybe they just see more potential in Jett? Who knows?

Either way, I'm happy with the draft.

His personality was a major turnoff for me. He strikes me as a psychopath

My preference was if we traded the 6th pick for some “veteran” help. The 11th pick should’ve been spent on a shooter. I guess they decided Jett was the best available at that point.

I’m a Fultz believer, I don’t see the use for Black. I’m not going to pretend I know who else should’ve been picked. I guess I would’ve liked Hendricks.

The Pelicans had been trying to move up from 14 in the draft and had contacted teams ( reported during the draft ) and I have to imagine Orlando having 2 picks had to have been asked if they would trade.

That being said I would have went Bilal & Jordan Hawkins. There was a reason when Hawkins was drafted by the Pelicans at 14 those player comparison videos showed Ray Allen and Richard “Rip” Hamilton .

In the case of the draft. It took me sleeping on it to understand what happened and then being OK with it.

We needed a PG to hopefully peacefully divorce from our current PG situation. So without moving up and getting Scoot or Amen we went with someone who actually played against known talent brackets in Black. Could easily justify it, and glad I saw it coming.

11th. I just didn't see it coming. Nobody was talking about it, nobody was addressing it. Heck I don't even remember when he worked out for us.

But as the night rolled into my drug infused sleep it started to make sense. We needed shooting, we needed a SG, we like pedigree, we like high iq kids with good heads on their shoulders.

Makes sense in hindsight.

If it doesn't pan out I won't be surprised but also wont be too angry. Summer league should be interesting.

I could have lived with Black at 6 if they made a better pick at 11.

6. Black is tolerable but would have preferred Walker or Whitmore.

11. Gradey Dick, Hawkins or Whitmore.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.

Black at 6 is fine. Howard at 11 was a big time reach. Better shooters were available in Dick or Hawkins, and better overall talents were available in Lively, Bufkin, Whitmore, or George...

Should’ve been Whitmore or Hendricks at 6.

At 11 I was good with any of Whitmore, Hawkins, or Lively.

I basically nailed my prediction of Black, Bufkin, and dumping 36. I just got the wrong Michigan guy.

We’ll see how it plays out, but I’m not happy.

For me its hard.

If I say, Buffkin, Dick, Hawkins, and either one of the pans out. "I am always right."

So no, wont be doing that.

Ya'know who I will be upset if they explode and we passed on them barring some kinda personality issue.

Cam Whitmore.

But we have enough oft injured players that we even drafted one in Jett coming off an ankle injury. So, my guess is Cam medical eval must have been pretty bad to slip that far.

6. I liked Black, the player, a lot. My type. I didn't like his fit so I dismissed him as an option until draft week. After Ausar was gone, near the end of pre-draft, I really wanted Coulibaly. Hendricks was also cool at 6 but meh.

11. If Coulibaly was still there, he was my main target. I was cool with other options (Lively, Bufkin, Hawkins). Not much of a Gradey guy and favored Jett over him. If we went shooter, Hawkins , Jett, and WHITEHEAD were my options. I was really high on Jett before the injuries. I let the mocks sway my belief in him as an option but always considered him in the shooter group and wondered why he was barely discussed with the other 2. I was surprised but happy when Jett was announced.

Meh on Cam.
Never considered Jarace.
Meh on Wallace, George, Gradey.
Was cool with Hendricks & Lively (more fit).
Intrigued by Bufkin & Hawkins. Hawkins would've taken some offensive creativity to maximize, but he could easily be Jodi Meeks.
Was super interested in gambling on Dariq. I'll keep an eye on him in BK.
