I don't know whether our new F.O. guys would have any interest in Taurean Prince. He's expiring & doesn't fit their timeline at all, being 29. Mainly they seem to covet draft capitol.
OTOH, we do have one too many pretty good PGs.
How attached are you to Josh Minott, if at all?
I thought your team liked Jordan McLaughlin -- a high-value low-cost find ala Monte Morris. No?
Good questions!
The story on Josh Minott is that Tim Connolly really likes him. He’s still a big development type player, but when he surprised everyone with a strong Summer League, Connolly signed him to a Hinkie Special. Last year, when Gobert trade cost us this year’s 1st, Connolly said he was keeping Josh down in Iowa to develop, and thinks he would be considered this year’s first round talent. He has electric athleticism, and plays with incredible energy all the time, but he still has plenty to learn. It’s funny though, he often still makes plays, and I’m still not sure if he’s in the right place randomly or he has a secret nose for the ball. I think of Thor’s line, “yeah, things seem to work out for me.”
I think MIN is more attached to Minott than their 1st round pick next year, Wendell Moore Jr. I had to edit him in because I forgot to mention him, which I think says something. WMJ is older and more polished, but he’s a high floor, cerebral player, like a lot of Dukie’s. But an important thing here is that both could get decent bench minutes in the future. With the team expensive at several positions, they’ll have opportunity for cheap players to fill the roster. MIN already has gaps at guard (Jaylen Nowell is likely gone) for WMJ minutes, and Minott will fill in if Prince is traded. I agree Prince’s age doesn’t fit your timeline, but MIN found him to be a big help the younger players on their roster, where they’d often gravitate towards the vet on and off the court.
Lastly, kudos for recognizing Jordan McLaughlin. A couple years ago, Finch loved him because he played Finch-style. Unlike DLo, McLaughlin would rush the ball up the court, and immediately pass to start the offense. The team did well when he was at the helm, and still like him a lot. Unfortunately, McLaughlin had that same injury as KAT for much of the season, and for some reason, couldn’t make his three’s at all. I suspect that Connolly will pick up his team option for slightly more than the vet min to maintain team continuity, but he will decidedly be the Wolves third PG and get some DNP-CDs when SloMo or Ant help with some back up PG minutes.
