To quote the great Allen Iverson:

We talkin about role players? Not a star…not a star…We talkin bout floor spacers, cmon man…I know, I know I’m Spose to be a fan who critiques and freaks out about every man on the roster…but we talkin bout role players?

If WeHam’s recent picks exist on a spectrum of Chuma to Franz (with Cole in the middle) my initial feels about Jett are that he’ll be more on the Chuma/Cole end of things than he is Franz.

But, I would’ve said Suggs was going to be the prize from that draft and Franz has proven otherwise so maybe Jett does the same to me again?

I saw a comp I agree with on Twitter in terms of grounded ceiling/floor.

Ceiling - Cam Johnson-esque
Floor - Doug McDermott

Considering I wouldn't mind offering Cam $$, I'd definitely take that comp.

And i've heard many of people saying the "If he's your guy" comment. And little do we know.... Jett might have been higher on others boards. He's healthy and worked out for teams.... interviewed with them. He said he did 10 workouts... Toronto and OKC being his best ones. For all we know...Toronto was like "Awwwwww man.... i guess we gotta go with dick now instead". We will see what we got.... real soon!

I don’t know if this Jett Howard pick will work out or not, but I am already thankful to him for one thing: savings us from 5+ years of Dick jokes. Thank god.

100%!
And also, not just that, what exactly would we get in a trade down? A 2nd round pick that we wouldn't use?

Jett was our guy, why try and get cute with it?

Another thing I like about this pick is the chemistry jett and black are coming in with. They played on the same team in the Iverson classic, I believe they were roommates as well iirc.... This game had Cason Wallace, Brandon Miller, keyonte.... Jett was MVP of the game

Me too lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a small factor in the decision to pass on him too.

Or … If Gradey Dick becomes half-decent, Toronto fans will now be dropping “Dick-Pics” on every board following each win where he plays well. There is no escaping it.

If the Magic wanted Jett, they could have traded down 3 to 4 picks for him.

Exactly... unlike us TOR probably puts much stock on workouts. I mean isnt that what happened between Suggs and Barnes? So who knows, maybe TOR really had Howard as their guy. So no use trading down.

What makes you think that those below us didnt have Howard as their guy? As others said, Howard said OKC and TOR had the best workout for him. And you know TOR puts a lot of stock in workouts.

If Howard was their guy, he is their guy. i dont blame the front office if they believe he is a difference maker. I see some serious flaws, but im no scout. will be interesting to see how he develops

Naw, find it hard to believe that they did not understand where Jett was as likely to go. I mean they do the research and gather plenty of inside info being in the business.

The other reason would be that they panic’d and took him but WeltHam are alot of things but impatient doesn’t seem to be one of them. I think it must have been likely that he would’ve been picked soon after or they were finding that no one was interested in trading back (likely with the lack of trades the rest of the first.

I can see people saying Jett was the wrong guy but to just throw out there that he could’ve been had later is a bit arrogant imo.

The most interesting thing about Jett is that he was known for his defense before college and offense was a question...

I'm wondering why we have a fetish for drafting Mich players with our second pick. 3 years in a row now

I also respect the emotional maturity of both. When Weltman talks about "family", it is clear that he is assembling a no-drama roster.
