Ausur could be our Scottie Pippen

Post#1 » by AnnArborpiston » Mon Jun 26, 2023 1:28 am

Pip was drafted in a similar position, and was not from a well known conference or team. But he was long, could jump out of the gym, and had incredible defensive awareness.

His rise in the NBA was pretty quick.

Ausur has similar measurables, and attributes. He should mould his game around pippen, and become our defensive anchor in the backcourt, and menace on the fast break.

Agree - he has the right style of NBA body and that 'humbleness' as a seriously long wing with a 40 inch vert, with point guard like quickness.

Steph Curry and Bazemore said it in the below video.... they know what the twins could turn into if they continue to work and that's something scary.

What a like the most is they have each other to push themselves to reach an elite level.

Pippen had great handles. He was unique in that he played PG and then had a late growth spurt so it gave him a different skillset. Ausar has primarily played with his brother being the primary ballhandler his entire life so he hasn't gotten as much time on the ball. From highlights I've seen much of Ausar's scoring has been either in transition or catch and shoot three's he hasn't shown nearly as much as young Pippen.

That said, even if he never ends up great on offense if he can at least be an all-defensive team caliber guy in a few years he's worthy of that #5 pick.

Pippen was a walk-on for Central Arkansas in the NAIA and wasn't even in the NCAA, he was a largely untested against top NCAA teams

A lot of young players struggle to learn that skill or adjust to being in a secondary role because they've always been THE guy on their own teams.

Ausar? He's always had his brother to facilitate and set up buckets so he's not in the Pippen mold.

Many here worry about the fit between Ivey & Cade because we don't know how well either of those guys will adjust to being off the ball more.

With Ausar that's not a concern. At all. If his playoff shooting numbers are legit he can be a factor as a catch & shoot option and as a cutter he reads his defender really well.

I'm hopeful on Ausar but these Johnson or Pippen comparisons are off. It's Iggy.

Its wierd I was just talking about this with my brother. Not that he is going to be Pippin, but his body style, and ball handling.

Hasn’t Iggy gotten a lot of Pippen comparisons?
