I heard the nets is willing to offer 4/84 that’s 21 mill a year so what’s it’s gone take us to steal him away
I wounded if 4/100 will be enough

Re: Cam Johnson
I think 4/100 the Nets probably reluctantly match with the expectation that he is still an asset and they can always trade him later (obviously this can be flawed logic though which is what we're seeing with Ayton in Phoenix currently). I think 4/110M really pushes them to not match and 4/120 they definitely don't.

Re: Cam Johnson
I'm giving him 25 per rather easily although it seems like alot. #1 guy I'd like to grab this offseason because of the obvious Monty connection.
If we can grab him im looking at Jerami Grant in FA. Trade targets im looking at Tobias Harris or Bobby Portis. I love Bobby Portis and hoping that he could possibly be a cap casualty in Milwaukee although I know he's loved there too.

Re: Cam Johnson
4/81 was what the Nets were comfortable offering him themselves.
I’d imagine the price tag to scare them off is notably higher than that.
And I’m really torn on how much he should get. He’s a bit older than the rest of our core but he could still get better, and he fits our group well in terms of abilities.
It’s more likely than not that he ends up staying put, one way or another.
I’ve gone back and fourth on Grant but ultimately think he’s not the best fit for this team and would rather us not go after him again.

I'm on record stating I'd decline Burks and make other moves that get us 40 mil in cap space.aad wrote:Can y’all see weaver spending all our cap space on him we have 30 mill to spend

30 mil of that is for Cam and I'd hope the Nets don't match 4 for 120.
His signing alone doesn't mean much though - hence the addition 10 & the 7.7 mil Room exception going to 2 dudes Monty can attract.
Duren - Stewart
Cam - Bojan
Ausar - 10 mil Monty guy
Ivey - Sasser
Cade - Jevon Carter (room exception)
Hayes, Livers, Bagley & Wiseman as the other guys gives us good depth

Re: Cam Johnson
I dont see them taking on Bagley. They got Claxton/Sharpe/that rookie they took in the 1st round.
MAYBE Killian so they don't lose Cam for nothing.
Nets need to cut salary not absorb it.

Then you don't have 30 mil for Cam
Burks isn't something I'm sold on. Sasser takes his spot with ease as does Carter in my scenario above.

Re: Cam Johnson
Haven't we already picked up the option on Burks? I thought I read it somewhere.

I think there's reports out there including from JEIII saying that we're expected to pick it up, but the official date isn't until just before free agency begins.

If we pick up the option on Burks that seriously impacts our cap space

Indeed, but a >40% three point shooter on reasonable volume is valuable to this team, especially at only $10M. There's also the possibility of picking up the option and then including his team friendly contract in a trade.

Re: Cam Johnson
I'm not understanding wanting to decline a really good ball handling and decent playmaking shooter on an expiring $10M contract. Especially when the options of either trading him or, go figure, playing him are actually better.

Wouldn't it just reduce it by 9million? So 31 million in your scenario?

IF we dump everyone else that I'm mentioned then yeah 30 mil to offer Cam and then the room exception for a Monty vet.Canadafan wrote:Pharaoh wrote:If we pick up the option on Burks that seriously impacts our cap space

Would give us:
Cade, Ivey, Burks, Hayes, Sasser at G.
Cam, Ausar, Stewart, Bojan, Livers at F
Duren, Wiseman and Bagley at C
Plus whomever you got with the room exception
Question isn't if we should dump Burks - the question is if we could get someone better for approx 10 mil now Monty is coach.
Keep in mind 10 mil is not MLE money though

Burks was great for us last year. Our most efficient scorer even better than Bojan plus he's three years younger than Bojan. 12.8 PPG in 22.0 MPG he was like a microwave scoring off the bench for us. He's also isn't a turnstile on defense. He's a little below average, but not awful like Bojan and Ivey were last year. He fits the need of shooting he's one of the best in the league. He is great at catch and shoot to space the floor, but in a pinch with a few seconds left he also can put the ball on the floor and get to a spot to get his jumper off. Not to mention, with all our drafted players (Stew, Hayes, Livers, Cade, Duren, Ivey, Ausar, Sasser) plus our two young guys we've traded for (Wiseman and Bagley) this team is serious lacking players that our 25+ in age. It's only Bojan and Burks. We're likely losing CoJo and McGruder and you really do need to have a few vets on the team even with a well respected coach.
That said, I also am not sure I see a clear way to get someone better than Burks unless we strike out on a big money FA (like Cam) and end up taking our cap space and splitting it between two players (like a Bruce Brown and a Grant Williams).... then perhaps you get a player that ends up being better for us than Burks in the long run. If it just gets you a below MLE offer to someone its hard to see someone that gets less than MLE being better for us than Burks unless they really improve into something after they sign with us.
If Sasser works out well for us from day one, and if Hayes ends up making improvements, and Ivey and Cade are healthy all season... keeping Burks probably isn't a huge need but all of those things happening probably isn't likely.
If Monty has a guy he likes in that range its going to be the room exception that was use to offer them a 2 year $15 million contract offer.

Re: Cam Johnson
If we can do 4/120 for Cam and still keep Burks, that should be the plan. And if we need a little more space, trade BB and take back a little less $.

Re: Cam Johnson
Also, I’d guess the Nets would almost give us O’Neal or Finney-Smith just so we don’t make a run at Cam.
