They’re just a worse treadmill version of Mitchell/Gobert jazz team.

**** tanking. It sucks. Glad they're not trying to tank.

Based on who is on the roster and who may still be in flux (JC, Olynyk, etc.) I hope our depth chart looks like this and we fill in the blanks:

???/George
???/Ochai
Lauri / ??? / Sensabaugh
Collins / Hendricks
Kessler / Olynyk

I'd REALLY like to get something this offseason to help the team this season at guard, but I also know we'll probably roll out Sexton. Which will be okay for the interim, but I feel like we're starting to accumulate some real weapons here and I just don't think he's the guy who will make the rest of them shine. Then roll with all the young guys off the bench while keeping Olynyk to manage the back-up unit as well as play with the 1st team if needed. I'm sure we'll keep some other serviceable guys on the roster. Some combination of THT, Dunn, etc. but I don't see anyone else that we really need short or long term.

I suspect Collins is going to get more time and touches in Utah. Ainge basically got a free asset and dumped Gay in the process.

Said in reference to Utah's trade assets in a potential Doncic deal.

Anything that gets rid of Rudy Gay is a good deal for Utah.

Like with boston a few years back, its much easier to not tank when you have loaded up with another teams picks. Utah can now have its cake and eat it too

Another trade that made a already solid team in the West better.

Collins was either marginalised by the offence (which I think is the case) or his finger is truly beyond repair and his game is suffering for it. I suspect Utah will be able to greatly rehab his value assuming it was a offensive system issue in Atlanta.

Except the have 15 First Round Picks thru 2029 and still have cap space. They are nowhere near a treadmill team because of the assets they have.

Terrible take

i think to fully evaluate this - we need to wait and see what atlanta gets using that 25 mil trade exception.

I'm curious the fit of Lauri/Collins after this...are they going to play Lauri/Collins/Kessler all together cause that'd be a big line-up.

Wont it be ~$19m after the Gay salary?

I don't know how anyone could hate this deal for the Jazz basically giving up a 2nd round pick to take a filler on all-star caliber big if his heads on straight and gets his game back on track,he's also still in his 20's.They have the cap space and the Jazz haven't been a tanking franchise really over the past 40 years, they've had 7 losing seasons in that span.

As someone else stated they can have their cake and eat it to, they can go after a playoff spot this season and still have cap room if they really want to upgrade the PG/SG in free agency.Could turn this rebuild around in one single season kind of like how the Nets & Celtics did in the past decade or so.

What makes Collins so undesirable? He’s a young, athletic PF that is really good finishing around the rim and would thrive next to a good PG (like he did next to Trae Young).

Honest question, don’t know his game at all, I don’t watch the Hawks.

Maybe the Jazz can resurrect Collins into something useful. He's just entering his prime and has insane athleticism. No free agents ever sign with Utah, so the salary of Collins is a nothing burger to them.

Its kind of amazing how Collins went from "one of the worst contracts in the league" according to the GB, to now a steal acquisition. Reminds me of the time a few years ago when the GB said the Hawks had "too much talent" and needed to consolidate.

Great deal for the jazz. We gave a 2nd to offload gay. We got Collins for free.

Huge TPE wow

that makes a lot more sense why atlanta made the trade.

i'm not sure when their previous trade exception was set to expire (maybe end of this league year?) but they got to shed ~$19M in cap space going into this off season and now have a fresh - massive - $25M trade exception they can use on a potential S&T which they'll probably need because they're way over the cap.

goes to show that trades are a lot more involved than just the pieces involved in the current trade.

When you're team is gonna pay the tax for a player that has been marginalised out of the offence on most plays, it is a terrible contract.

When a team has cap space and the ability to try and rehab that player's value to reflect his talent, its a much more solid contract. Mind you, if his finger is cooked, thats all null and void

Yet, after all this, he still opted to take the L on the lakers deal, despite killing it on every other deal
