Guess I just don't agree with this notion that you can't be an effective lead ball-handler if you have big shooting/scoring deficiencies. Rajon Rondo, Ricky Rubio, and Shaun Livingston certainly disagree.
To be a great "connector" guy you still have to have some sort of off-ball scoring ability, and "DeAndre Bembry who can make the extra swing pass" is a pretty useless player to me. My entire faith in him as a potential Top-8 postseason rotation guy rests on him either developing a somewhat serviceable 3-ball, or being an actual PG (or point wing if you prefer) that can orchestrate the offense. I have the latter as the vastly more likely outcome.

I'm higher on Jackson due to the playmaking stuff personally. Walsh is young, but he doesn't have the playmaking aspect or the shooting (at least at the moment). He definitely has more potential as a shooter than Jackson, but he's a bad shooter at the moment too. Probably a better scorer inside as I just don't think Jackson is good outside of dunks that are set up by his teammates (or in transition).
Full transparency, I had Jackson ever so slightly inside my top 30, but there was still 5 or 6 guys available at 36 that I had ahead of him.
I hope he ultimately shows there's more to his offensive game than I think there is, but he didn't really show it in high school or college.
It's funny that Walsh is like the one guy who shot worse and less than Jackson.
Walsh statistically shot poor, but the foundation on his shot and mechanics are day and night compared to Jackson.

Livingston played that role what, almost 20 years ago? He was nothing like a primary ball handler on the Warriors, which were his best years.
Rondo and Rubio are the 2 best examples. I don't think Jackson is in that class in terms of handles and vision, but if that's the developmental route our coaching staff decides to go, then those 2 are the model.

It's possible, but all of those guys were much better scorers than Jackson projects to be IMO and much better getting into the paint and putting pressure on defenses too. If he's going to be a lead ball-handler, he's got to find a more effective way to penetrate the defense IMO. Outside of transition opportunities, he didn't really do that much.

Re: #36 - Andre Jackson Jr
Yeah, I don’t see much PG potential there.
He wasn’t breaking down defenses all too much. He was catching and immediately looking to get to the hoop against a shifted defense or quickly making the right pass to the right guy. He also doesn’t have a runner. He has some disgusting shot put situation that he pulls from any distance from any angle.
He’s probably not going to become a star unless his jumper develops immensely. But I think he can still be a strong rotation piece if he is a high level/versatile defender, an elite transition threat, and an opportunistic connective piece on offense.

That's pretty much the question that determines his NBA future IMO, and we've got the next 2-3 years to figure out. I'm optimistic but he's in a unique situation where the coaching staff is gonna have to find creative ways to maximize his impact playing with our superstar who also is a huge spacing liability. Griffin's gotta have a plan with him.
I don’t think he’s a good enough ball handler/scorer right now to be a lead ball handler. It’s possible the ball handling will get there. I’m a lot more pessimistic about the scoring. He seems to be more of a wing/connective tissue to me.

Really? He better learn pretty quickly then, because I'm not seeing any sort of realistic path to being an additive offensive player by just running dribble hand-offs and baseline cuts to the basket. You just can't have a dude out there who's that much of a zero offensively in today's league and expect to not be playing 4-on-5.
Hmmm, where have we seen a guy that isn’t a good shooter but is a freak athlete and can do everything else be successful before? Let me think…
Stotts has to be absolutely giddey with all these weapons

Yeah. Shorter Giannis is not a completely absurd comparison. I’m not sure well Giannis would fare at 6’6, but it’d be interesting.

I mean he’s not Giannis, not backing guys into the post, not euro stepping around guys, etc. Dre is absolutely going to yam on the rim with an open lane. He has an explosive first step with or without the ball. Has great hands, solid handles, and can process the simple read at full speed.
We all wish Giannis had this level of processing speed

Re: #36 - Andre Jackson Jr
Jackson can make some absolutely absurd passes off the bounce so I'm not really understanding why people are poo-pooing the idea of him as an actual on-ball point-guard, point-wing, point-forward, whatever you wanna call him. Like, Joe Ingles bringing the ball up was at times our best halfcourt offensive set we ran and how many times was even prime Ingles considered a guy who could create his own shot?
That a lot of his assists came in transition in college isn't really evidence to me that he's just a fastbreak/movement play-maker. If anything I'm excited to see him play with actual NBA talented scorers/finishers because I think the opposite might be true (his half-court playmaking's gonna level up).

Re: #36 - Andre Jackson Jr
Yea a guy like that can certainly find his niche in the nba. Draymond is another example. It's an odd combo with Giannis though, that's what's tricky here. But I also think they're just hoping to get a contributor out of him (like when I used the high floor line a few days ago) as opposed to expecting him to play 35 mins next to Giannis. But to come in once or twice per half and do the little stuff like DDV got done seems doable at some point. If a shot develops you've gotten lucky

Racking my brain to think of who that would be. Being the Bucks board, Joe Alexander? Or the dream of him at draft anyway...
