I love the pick. His shot reminds me pj Tucker, but that can be serviceable, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. The athleticism is ridiculous, he’s a threat at the rim like Giannis, hopefully he can pick up some moves from him.

For as young as he is, he’s got a ton of time to refine his game. I haven’t been this excited about a rookie since Parker.

Dre’s mom was an amateur boxer, and she’s Italian. She’ll fight you lol

I missed that in the scouting report:

6'6" tall, athletic, great vision, high bbiq, great passer, explosive first step, mom Italian with knock out skills.

It's amazing how the people who are worried about him not being successful never add the additional two words, he can't be a successful lead ball handler without a shot.... "With Giannis"

Can you imagine Giannis setting a screen for him?

What would the defense do?

I love having a rook with high bbiq... Can he teach the MVP a thing or two?

Immediately drop and sit in the paint because neither of them can shoot.

Depends on their recognition time and how quick the shot blocker is because Dre would turn the corner and be gone. How big does the wall have to be to stop both of them? They can screen and rescreen all the way to the restricted area and then yam. Do both defenders sprint back and stand shoulder to shoulder to take the charge?

That’s why I am doubling down on that push shot. Means he can get to the paint, just need to dial that in.

Yep and that push shot will likely be easier for him to get down than becoming an above average three point shooter.

I'm optimistic but he's in a unique situation where the coaching staff is gonna have to find creative ways to maximize his impact playing with our superstar who also is a huge spacing liability. Griffin's gotta have a plan with him.

I don’t think he’s a good enough ball handler/scorer right now to be a lead ball handler. It’s possible the ball handling will get there. I’m a lot more pessimistic about the scoring. He seems to be more of a wing/connective tissue to me.

Really? He better learn pretty quickly then, because I'm not seeing any sort of realistic path to being an additive offensive player by just running dribble hand-offs and baseline cuts to the basket. You just can't have a dude out there who's that much of a zero offensively in today's league and expect to not be playing 4-on-5.

I mean we did win a championship playing 4 on 5 offensively with pj tucker.

yes, but PJ can reliably hit a corner 3. he's known for it, and that helps with the spacing. if Jackson can't do at least that, it's a big problem.

Watching Jackson Jr’s highlights, I just can’t see him not making an impact in the NBA. He seems to be the epitome of a winning basketball player. I’m not too concerned about his shooting. He does everything else so well, and I’m sure the staff can get him to a respectable level from the corner three.

PJ played 23 games in the 2021 playoffs with us. He was 19 of 59, or 32.2% from 3. So he made 0.826 3pt per game and attempted 2.56 per game. In fact he averaged 4.26ppgz for us in those playoffs.

Didn't he brick that entire playoffs though? I don't recall the opposition playing him tight.

I think the spacing is less of an issue if 1. You have great passers and 2. You add more athleticism.

They can still build a wall but kind of hard to do if Giannis can lob it right back to AJj. They probably need 3.5 guys in the lane at that point. Instead of just having guys on the perimeter (which the other do all need to be perimeter guys) it would be better to also have quicker guys who can also slash and move to find cracks in the wall. Keep the wall moving and break the foundation. Probably works better with Giannis at the 5, though, without Lopez for these limited minutes

Don't think it's a full game thing, but just a different look for 15 minutes a game. We don't need / want a rookie playing 25 minutes in the finals next year.

People seem to forget this in the myth of PJ. It was compounded by it magically becoming a reality in Miami at like age 37 where he actually became an offensive threat.
