He'd be a FA.

But in terms of re-signing the likes of AR and Rui? Could LA offer more if they allowed JV to be an FA?DanishLakerFan wrote:tugs wrote:What are the implications again if the team option on JV was not picked up?

Also, was it an option to allow JV to be a UFA, re-sign him long term at a lower salary first year then eventually increase over time?

Latest rumors from The Athletic indicate Rob & Bighead wanna run it back and have DLo, Lonnie & Dennis return, while looking for small improvements around the same core

I think you will see…
A Reaves matched FA signing 4 for 98
Rui H 3 for 48 (PO on final year)
D Russell 2 for 40
Lonnie W 3 for 28 (PO final year)
(Schroeder, Beasley and Bamba gone)
MLE: Trey Lyles 2 for 11
Vet Mins: Paul Reed, Stanley Johnson, Svi, John Wall
Starters (Backup)
AD (Lyles)
LBJ (Vanderbilt)
Rui (Vanderbilt)
Reaves (Walker)
Russell (Wall or Reaves)
Depth
JHS
Christie
Reed
Johnson
Svi
Lewis
Salary 171.3 million
(Cap is 136 million, Luxury Tax is 165 million)
Lakers are in the repeater tax this year so keeping the tax bill lower will be a priority to start the year at least.
They may keep Bamba if they don't mind the tax bill because hes a moveable expiring contract. Tax on keeping him alone may be close to 30 million however. I'm sure the Lakers will have a hard time justifying hes worth it.
Christie and JHS will be given an opportunity to play into minutes throughout the year. Would not surprise me if either crack the rotation sooner than later.
Lakers will have tradeable contracts at the deadline if they deem it worth acquiring more help at that point. Bamba's deal would be a huge bonus to have around in that scenario as well.
Players like Lyles, Reed and Stanley Johnson would give us needed increased size and defensive options.

Still holding out for Brook Lopez / Ham reunion... we need that size to compete.

He might take the full MLE but he isn’t going to take the tax payer mle

Why spend a mid 1st on a PG you plan on keeping....while filling the roster with a gazillion other guards?
We really gonna Pippen Jr. this new guy?
We had other glaring needs we could have adressed either with that pick or trading it.
Showtime:Part2 wrote:The notion that we need to sign Beasley for 15 mill as a trade chip is just so flawed. This only applied to teams who have a boatload of picks to trade for star players. We have like 1 or 2 tradeable firsts lol. Get that bum out of here and give my boy max Christie minutes
