If im not mistaken i think he did have the surgery and it was just taking a long time to fully heal and he was playing through the healing process. It got healed up enough to where it wasn't bothering him anymore towards the end of the season. which also is about when Snyder took over the team. Thats why you see his shooting % go way up around that time from like 23% or so to his normal 39 to 40%. It was a very good sign that his shooting game went back to normal the more he healed imo.

I mean maybe but what if they find out Collins sucks and they flip him for a bad contract and a second round pick? This move can have downside as well.

I guess they're different crowds, but it is as if realgm simultaneously believe Collins is trash and on a massively bloated contract, but also that he can easily be rejuvenated/revitalized/resurrected by magic snakoil man Danny Ainge into becoming an allstar and thusly that this deal was a steal for the jazz.

He couldn't go back to his stats (not his level) if they play they'd continue to use him like they did.
He may be good with UTA, but it would have been even better if he had ended up with a C like Turner, Embiid, Jokic... guys who can 3s (I would have like to see him stay in ATL at least one more year and play with a C like Turner instead of Capela)

All the Jazz bigs except Kessler are great shooters. If you stagger his minutes with Walker, you can play Collins at 5 with one or two of Lauri, KO and Hendricks without actually getting small and use him in the P'n'R.

Never said it wouldn't work, I just said it would be "even better for him" to play with the main C being able to shoot from deeper range.
Kessler is the main C, and is incredible, but not a shooter like the one I cited

And I agree that he can play with the other guys, and also a bit as a C himself

Then the Jazz would be Atlanta.

Joking aside, if we go by your scenario, by the time the Jazz find out definitively that Collins sucks, he'd have only two seasons remaining on his deal at most, possibly less, and thus would be much easier to move for a better return.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.
