Who would you rather have counseling Keegan, Colby Jones, and Slawson? HB or Kuz?

Depends if that money goes to Sabonis right now or not. Without the Sabonis early extension, then yes they should still have room for 1 more guy.

Even with it. I thought they didn’t need to dip into their active cap to sign those two?

Sounds like they can

1. Bump Sabonis salary + Extend, resign Lyles, use room on Sasha.

2. Wait on the Sabonis extension + use 18 million in cap space + resign Lyles

Not sure on the Sasha signing for part 2.

I’ve never bothered understanding the cap at all but did I read Sasha could be brought over with an exception we have?

Other side to the coin. We have no idea if Monte even wanted him. Maybe he put a feeler out and Kuzma team said they think they can get x amount, and Monte had him worth less. There seemed to be a ton of smoke around Kuzma to Sac, it flamed out quickly and turned to Houston.

Houston can sign FVV + Kuzma to big money deals. Likely more than Monte was willing to pay.

I hope so, but I’ve already given him a piece of my mind in the DMs, lol

Barnes deal is an overpay. Not a franchise killer but an overpay nonetheless. Listen, he's like the 4th option and most of his looks are very advantageous. It makes his numbers and impact seem more than they are. I think anyone with talent could step into that specific role and provide what Barnes does. He's just there. I'd rather devote that kind of money towards front-court help. We're essentially "running it back" and I'm sorry but, with how much everyone else has improved we're going to be on the outside looking in I'm afraid.

I think we underrate being “just there”. A lot of players don’t have the skills to go unnoticed. I’d rather have Barnes than these limited, dimensional no-bag names like Hart and Brown. Barnes is an all around player.

I didn’t like the money at all, but hearing it’s back loaded and Max Strus is rumored to be looking at the same contract and maybe it’s the market.

I do wish we could have upgraded though

Not a fan of this and truly not at all satisfied with what is happening now. It becomes a look of just holding on instead of being aggressively proactive after clearing a lot of cap to be a player.

I’ll add that I know a lot of you are keeping your hopes up that “something will happen” and Barnes will be the sixth man.

News flash, that’s been tried with him before and he doesn’t produce squat when he comes of the bench. He has to start to be at all effective.

Yeah just not really ever a Barnes fan. No true position and not athletic so he clogs the PF spot and makes us severely undersized.

Idk.. Barnes was considered a ball stopped by Dallas fans. I think players can change based on the role they are in. Kuz was clearly gunning for a raise on a team that was playing aau style all around. A collection of guys rather than a team.

I still don't think kuzma sniffs 30 ms. Who is paying him that? If Houston does go brooks/fvv, I don't see much of a market for kuzma. Indiana could give him 20 a year. I'm thinking there's a possibility he gets a 2 year player option deal for less than Barnes just signed for. Hell maybe Monte is smarter than us all and we are still in play for him. I'd give Kuz the same deal we just gave HB In a heart beat

Good, I can be a petty guy.

I find it amusing he will not be able to use the Rockets or us as leverage now.

I don’t entirely hate the move. I rather pay 18/yr for Barnes than 30/yr for Kuzma.

Still, I think the Kings slightly overpaid Barnes.

I’m curious what are the next moves for the Kings.

If the Kings can keep Lyles, bring Vezenkov here and sign a Bruce Brown-level player — I think it’s a solid FA period. Nothing flashy but keeps continuity and familiarity. The team, as constructed (including potential moves listed above), is probably a 4th-8th seed in the west.

How much money is left for let's say Grant Williams? I could see him signing for slightly above MLE money, after the Playoffs he had.

I was thinking Kuzma was getting bag based on us apparently settling for Barnes at 18.

I thought it was just a negotiating ploy but if Kuzma is literally turning down offers from winning teams to play freewheeling rec ball we avoided a total loser anyhow

Decent flyer for what I assume will be a second round pick or two.

Terrance Davis replacement. Duarte is a better fit. Nice buy low depth guy.
