Might as well get rid of Greenberg while you’re at it

I mean what's not to love? JVG is hilarious. Do people actually hear some of his ideas and think he's dead serious?
That's only part of the Van Gundy schtick. He routinely goes on insufferable tangents for possessions on end that have nothing to do with the broadcast. I'm there to watch a basketball game, not listen to him do a terrible Jerry Seinfeld impression like it's open mic night at The Comedy Hole.
He's great. Give me those tangents instead of the same thing you hear over and over in every game. He's the best (national) color commentators, the funniest and one of the best analysts too.
And unemployed. Don't forget that one too.

The only way he doesn't wind up on TNT is if he declines their offer. I wouldn't get too giddy about not hearing him; you'll be disappointed.

So Perk survived the cuts?
ESPN's NBA coverage is so constantly bad it's kind of amazing. TNT obviously is a miraculous level of personalities put together so it's an impossible standard to live up to. The only NBA coverage people ESPN has who I actually want to listen to these days are Windhorst and Woj.

I know which means we can get Max and Marcellus on a different network.
Marcellus is already doing his show on his YouTube.

Maybe it's just watching too much wrestling as a kid, but Jeff going on a boomer rant against the refs or trying to be funny is soulful to me. I don't really get people who want their commentary to sound like they are playing NBA 2K.

Max was making around 5mil a year and Keyshawn Johnson was making around 3.6mil. All this makes sense if your ESPN when you can just hire people like Perkins who is brand new and probably is even getting 1mil a year. ESPN knows where their bread and butter is and its SAS, McAfee, SVP and Buck/Aikman who they just got. If you're not any of these people you're probably expendable or cheap to keep. The other lone legacy exceptions seem to be Wilbon/Kornheiser and the PTI show which tells me it still must be doing well and also the two of them either don't command that much salary or ESPN figures they're worth it.
The sports talking head/hosts field is a crowded market and it's hard to really stand out nowadays since everybody has become the same loud opinionated head or cookie cutter hosts. This is probably why Jason Whitlock, Will Cain, Jemele Hill and now Charly Arnolt have pivoted towards non-sports stuff the way they have in order to stand out.

Oh wow. Didn't know they were making that much outside of SAS. Definitely makes sense then.jokeboy86 wrote:ChuckChilly wrote:How much do these guys make? Like 300k or something? I don't even dislike Joe Buck necessarily but what SAS is to yelling and fake outrage, Joe Buck is to mundanity.

TNT obviously have much better brother. I hope they don't make the mistake and replace him with the inferior one.

It would be super cool if Perkins was the next one to get the axe so I could watch NBA Today without fast forwarding through 90% of it.
But in reality this is probably part of ESPN's maser plan to just be Kendrick Perkins 24/7 lol.
