Andrew McCeltic wrote:Is the consensus that we want:

1. a cheaper back-up point guard somewhere in between White and Pritchard in talent level
2. a durable rotation big, whether it's Grant or someone else
3. a back-up wing

And to prioritize:

1. defense & switchability
2. offensive flow (off-ball movement, high IQ, connective passing, secondary playmaking in that order)
3. nothing below average 3pt%

I'd say that the rotation big can be a below average shooter. Obviously that would just mean don't play that guy with Rob.

Good deal for the pistons dude is a dead eye three point shooter.

Plus, there was just rumors over the past couple of days that detroit was looking to move Bogdanovic.

That'll probably be the next domino to fall..

Anyone have ideas on a 3rd team that could get involved with this Clippers deal?

They have Batum, Gordon, Mann, all interesting players but ehh... feel like Malcolm is worth more.than that.

Yeah, he might shoot them into 19 wins instead of only 17.

Getting two seconds for that scrub Harris is a fleecing that would make Brad stand up and applaud.

He's young, fits more in the timeline,
he's good, his contract is frontloaded, so $20 M. next season and decreasing to $17.5 in 26/27.
And there seems to be some unwritten rule that Boston and the Spurs have to trade with each other.

I like the idea, but Johnson doesn't necessarily seem like the right fit as a role player. His game is more built on being a top scorer. Could work in bench units though. Not sure he's the right guy to play as the second perimeter scorer with Tatum or Brown though when the other sits.

You make some valid points, as he's more a starter than a role player, was thinking more from a talent perspective
and a future trade piece on a moveable contract.

Yeah I'm not opposed. I just think you have to be careful bringing in young players with the idea that they'll slot into a supporting role here. We saw that go bad in the Kyrie year. It wasn't just Kyrie that was a problem, it was all of the young guys coming up on contracts or just trying to make a name for themselves that wanted to look out for their own over play a role for the team.

Johnson is still an ascending player in this league. He got his 2nd deal, but I'm sure he wants to get an even bigger deal on his third. He's probably looking to grow his game. t least that's how he plays. I have serious questions about him coming in and taking a supporting bench scorer role. or if he starts not sure how he'd feel about being the 4th option out there behind Brown/Tatum/Porzingis.

Didn't Ainge get back a bunch of seconds in that deal though? He just refused to ever actually "give up" picks. If I recall he really traded that #30 pick just for more 2nds and worked the small salary dump into it. Rather than actually giving up picks to dump someone like BRK did.

This tweet was corrected, they traded Harris WITH (2) seconds to the Pistons. So they paid to get rid of him.

Analysis

It’s hard to envision Beverley seeing much of a fit for himself right now for Boston’s current roster without more movement in their backcourt with Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon and Payton Pritchard all under contract. However, if Brogdon or Pritchard were on the move in a separate deal, an opportunity could be available for a veteran like Beverley in a bench role.

The Celtics don’t have much to offer Beverley in free agency as the team is currently composed. If Grant Williams is a part of Boston’s plans (unclear at this point), the Celtics won’t have the ability to offer even the taxpayer mid-level exception ($5 million) and still stay under the second apron (which would become a hard cap if they use the MLE). Boston could offer Beverley the veteran’s minimum but odds are likely that Beverley may have a bigger market than that (closer to taxpayer mid-level) if there are multiple suitors for him.

Either way, Beverley probably won’t be among the first players to land deals as cap space is used on Friday night but is a player to watch as a possible bench option for Boston if there is more dealing to come in the backcourt.

I know a lot of people here don't want Beverley, but sometimes you need a guy that's just a complete **** out there to balance out the Stevens choirboys. I think Brad is starting to recognize that teams have just started to make adjustments to the Celtics defense and there hasn't been much adjustment by Joe.

One alternative to changing up the defensive schemes is to just disrupt whatever is happening on the floor. Marcus was one of the few guys who would go into that dimension. Essentially, a Pat B can change the momentum (for good or bad) by getting into someone's grill. This can throw a hot Duncan Robinson or Max Strus off for long enough for Joe to figure out if he wants to take a time out or not.

I know. It's not ideal, but for vet minimum it's worth a look. this is, will he disrupt the locker room too? I think Pat is one of those guys who is great when he's on your own team. Maybe fans of other teams he's been on can chime in.

I know Brad has been in contact with many players and agents, but who will be Brad's first transaction call? Brown? Grant? Brogdon? What will be the first announcement from the Celtics. A player signing or a trade?
