Cam should fire his agent if he doesn’t get big money

I hear Johnson and the Nets just agreed to a 4yr, $108mil contract. A bit rich, but I'm good with it. Welcome back, Cam!!!

He needs to improve a bit for that not to be terrible.
Based on that is Clax getting the max next year? About to be a very expensive team without a star

he averaged 16 ppg and played good D in 30mph with nets. he only shot 37% from 3, so biggest thing is nets need him to go back to 40%+. need a player to draw more gravity to help that probably.

Re: Early discussion on the 2023 offseason
hollinger's model had him as his 9th best FA worth almost exactly what he got. i think this is a lot for a role player but considering the character and everything else i get it. just a big #.
9. Cam Johnson, PF, 27, Brooklyn (restricted): $26,368,306
Don’t be surprised if the bidding on Johnson gets a little wacky, simply because rival teams know they might be able to spook the Nets from matching if they can present a strong offer sheet. Brooklyn enters the offseason just $10 million from the projected tax line; matching a strong sheet for Johnson would push the Nets past the first tax apron unless they can ditch salary someplace else. (Joe Harris and Patty Mills would be the likely places to start.)
The other consideration, of course, is that Johnson is such a plug-and-play fit in most systems because he can competently guard both forward spots, runs the floor and shoots 39.3 percent career from 3. There isn’t enough shot creation here for star-level upside, which is why teams should be careful going too high up the salary ladder, but Johnson is a valuable piece who seems likely to have multiple suitors.

Fair deal for both sides, Can is young enough to fit into our timeline.

Massive overpay on Cam. His deal is more than what Bridges got for being an inferior player.

And not good enough to be the 3rd best player on a playoff team. Marks better bring in a star this offseason

Bridges got $90m in October 2021 and at the time he'd never averaged more than 14 ppg and only had 1 year over 40% from 3.
Cam Johnson turned down 78m from Phoenix in Oct 2022. The Nets gave Joe Harris 4 x 75m and he was a total 1 trick pony. 80-100m was where he was going to get paid and the fact that the RFA system is what it is pushed him to the top end.
Comparing any FA deal the day it's signed to one of the best contracts in the nba is not rational.

Scotto says the max value is $108mil for Cam. There are bonuses and incentives in the deal. It'll be interesting to see what the realistic value is.

I have no idea why we just let guys like Bruce & Yuta walk for free when they were perfectly fine for us
Can’t blame Yuta as JV didn’t seem to rate him

Personally think it's rather high but if Cam does take his game to another level, it'll even out. He has the tools so that's why I can see it was done at that price

Yea seeing Yuta dropped out like that is one of the reasons I don't back JV anymore

agreed. to me it's the Joe Harris or Crabbe contract, but with a little more upside since he's more dynamic than either of them were. If the first 2 guys shot 37% they were close to useless, Cam was still a useful player putting up 16 ppg as a net not shooting his best.
it's not a great value unless he hits another level but he's useful.
