It seems clear tho Cronin is betting on internal improvements and continuity to make the team better than they were.

Man if we did this stupid contract for only 1 more year of Dame it'll be super upsetting

If we go nuclear jerami is exactly the sort of player who will iso ball and steal shots from talented youth. Really wish we had a nic batum type of wing instead of going all in on a Chinese knockoff kd for the number 2 option while banking on a 2 pg lineup which never works out

Yeah, this seems about right for the Blazers. Waiting for the obligatory “We tried to make some trades, but it takes two teams to trade. We feel really good about our team next year. Just had bad injury luck.”

Honestly, who cares? The handwringing over contracts is one of the most pointless things fans do in the NBA. If they trade Dame, then they hand the keys over to Scoot and Sharpe and Grant gets to play with the baby Blazers.

Not a product of the roster 2.0

And we added Scoot which is better than any FA out there for the cap space we had/ players available in trade.

Another year of running it back. I’m losing my mind. I have a deep DEEP seething hatred for this organization, there isn’t anything redeemable from the HC, the GM, or the owner, or the Vulcans.

Olshey was a better salesman. Cronin is just a nice guy who gets screwed because he's afraid to be mean every once in awhile

Hopefully they take his touches if he plays with the baby blazers

I'm just tired of stupid money, would be nice to have expiring contracts during these rookie deals and maybe add a star if these kids are any good.

Running it back with the guard glut we currently have means Sharpe is getting most of his minutes out of position at SF, in his sophomore season - a hugely important season developmentally.

We have to trade Simons.

On the contrary. This move only makes sense if we're intending to keep Dame.
Otherwise, we would either pay Grant what he's actually worth, or just let him walk.

Trade dame or not, I’m not mad at keeping Jerami personally.

The general board killing you guys for the Grant signing.

I personally think it is a decent deal in todays market. People act like it was a full max contract.

32M AV Grant on a rebuild team is not good - he doesnt make guys better around him, he would simply take take touches from the youngsters.

As someone else said, a guy with a Batum archetype would be acceptable at this cost win-now or rebuild b/c he made guys better around him, moved the ball, set a tone on defense. Grant isnt that guy.

I've heard the contract calls for $27.5 million in year 1 and with max increases comes out to
$160 million/5 which allows for the Blazers to offer a full MLE for a free agent.

Who will they be trying to sign with their MLE?

The problem is the only person left worth the MLE is Lopez. Who is worth more than the MLE.

Although I did hilariously put money down on the Blazers signing Brooks, which I hope doesn't come true.

Brook signing for the MLE would be the biggest MLE surprise since Cousins did so.

I just cant see it.

Id still hate it but could live with this deal if it were 4 years or 5 was unguaranteed money. I'm not optimistic that is the case here

Wonder how many FRP we could get if we hail-married a Simmons trade - Simons + Little for Simmons + 2 FRP?

Dont see many other options that have even a slight chance of moving the needle.

As long as it's not a Dame deal, I might be one of the few who likes a Hail Mary Simmons deal. Even at his worst, he can defend most positions and move the rock. He's a fit here. I doubt, though, that he'd come with significant pick compensation.
