I'd take Pat Bev for the vet min to close out FA if nobody signs him, locker room vet

We got the wrong Brown. What the hack can Brown JR do for you? We basically got Brown to replace TP and Milton to replace Nowell. I was hoping for something bigger. Nevertheless, few weeks ago, some of you were concerned with losing Naz and NAW because Towns' contract. Well, we basically are running it back. Is JMcl moving to the front office?

We signed 3 guys today that play Moore's position...

I think, at this point, I'd rather Mike Conley be the voice of the locker room and not Pat Bev.

Conley, Milton (6'5)
Edwards, NAW (6'5), Moore (6'5)
McDaniels, Brown (6'7), Minott (6'8)
Towns, Anderson (6'9), Miller (6'11)
Gobert, Reid (6'10), Garza (6'10)

Nice size and competition for backup playing time on the wings, with PG and C/PF being locked up

That's a real good looking team to me.

We are running it back with some nice tweaks. Brown Jr. put up a number of scoring barrages last year. Milton IMO was a gem signing.

For sure.

If 4 or 5 guards go down, we'll be happy we have Moore.

On/Off shows Philly was definitely better on defense with Shake on the floor last year - and even more so in the Playoffs.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/miltosh01/on-off/2023

Defense is what he's known for.

I would NOT go that far. He's definitely an offensive player first and foremost.

He's been anywhere from a slight negative to a slight positive throughout of his career. He was pretty good last year. Mostly he won't hurt you on that end.

Yes either that scenario or both Milton + Brown into the MLE (~9 mil).
using more than 5 million of the MLE or the BAE hardcaps us (can't complete any transaction that would take us over the 172 mil 1st tax apron). SInce we will almost certainly not pay the tax, not a huge deal. Just thought I would point out that we will be hardcapped.

With Milton only signing for 2 years and Brown only 1 guaranteed year, not a lot of downside risk on those signings, other than the fact that we are basically locked into this roster now.

Yep for better or worse we are locked in. As a person who wanted us to run it back I like it.

Good offseason. Ant becomes a top 5 player and this team can do some damage

Draft picks:
10. Miller (1.10)
11. Clark (1.10)

Unguaranteed:
Prince 7.46
McLaughlin 2.32
Knight 2.00

Restricted Free Agent
NAW (7.07 tender)

Restricted Free Agent (2-way)
Garza
Ryan

Veteran Minimum (2+ yr) cap hit: 2.02 million
Luxury tax threshold: 165 million

1. Gobert 41.00

3. Conley 24.36

5. NAZ 12.95
6. Anderson 9.22
7. Milton 4.80
8. NAW 4.30
9. McDaniels 3.90
10. Brown Jr 3.80
11. Moore 2.42
12. Mclaughlin 2.32
13. Miller 1.80
14. Minott 1.72

162.13 million

Very rough estimates for Milton, NAW, Brown Jr assuming ascending contracts for the numbers reported.
Assuming Miller gets the 3 year 2nd round pick exception.

That leaves one open roster spot, Clark yet to be signed, and Garza and Ryan as restricted free agents.

Filling the last spot with a vet min (2.02) brings us to 164.15 million, only 885 k below the tax to use on 2 ways (we paid out 950k to 2 way players last year according to hoopshype).
Filling the final slot with Clarke on a rookie minimum (1.10) brings us to 163.23, 1.77 million below the luxury tax.

Leaving the roster spot open leaves us at 162.13 million with 2.87 million remaining below the tax.
With only 14 roster spots filled, we are limited to 90 games active from our 2-way players.
This is the most likely scenario IMHO.
Under this scenario we could elevate a guy like Luka to a regular contract late in the year to be playoff eligible and only have to pay that prorated portion of his regular salary.

Clarke gets a 2 way, and Garza and perhaps Ryan are brought back on 2-ways if they can't find guaranteed minimums on the open market.

Garza could be brought back on a vet min and Clarke given a 2 way. Then we are threading the needle all year managing time given to our 2 way players hoping we don't get devastated by injuries.

I really want Luka back

We don't have much for options.
if we wanted to cut one player and add another it would pretty much put us into the luxury tax, since all of our salaries on the books are guaranteed now (waiting to see what Miller signs for).

If we hold that final roster spot open (big IF), we might be able to squeeze one more minimum signing in sometime during the year.
