Considering what Grant and Cam signed for it is likely our FO knew we weren't going to be able to land either of them so rolled it over another year.

Tbh I prefer we do that instead of overpayfor dudes that don't move the needle.

We also have to consider that the likes Bruce Brown & Herb Jones might not want to come here and be locked in to a bench role for their entire deals.

That's a lot for Bruce. But he's versatile, solid on both sides of the ball, and is a great gritty glue guy. Happy to see him get paid.

But, I'm not thrilled he's going to be a Pacer. I'm not a fan of the team that is based in the city I live in.

You are not alone.. i can cheer on the colts after i cheer for the lions but i just cant.. cant for the pacers

WOW that's a lot of money!

Isn't that the Supermax though? Is he even eligible for the supermax?

Just wait til Cade gets a max extension in 12 months the numbers are going to be huge as 2025 (the first year of his extension) will be the year the new TV deal possibly makes the cap explode up an extra $40 million... that would mean Cade's deal could start $10 million higher than rookies from the 2020 draft class). https://www.nbcsports.com/nba/news/next-nba-tv-streaming-deal-could-lead-to-175-million-salary-cap

Say what you will about kicking the can down the road, but at least we didn't put ourselves in a Houston-sized crater.

Some might say that we didn’t set ourselves up for a Titan-sized implosion.

Wonder if Grant’s deal becomes a sign and trade now?

Portland is going to sign and trade Grant to themselves?

That horribad contract just got a lot worse, after only like 18 hours.

Umm, no. To another team that was interested in Jerami leading up to FA.

There was already an agreement in place. I suppose either side could go back on that since it still has a few days until the signing is official. But thats unlikely and questionable integrity might creep into that equation.

Off the top of my head changing an agreed to signing has only happened once, when Marcus Morris dipped out on his Spurs agreement to sign with the Knicks.

Besides what other teams out there would not only want Grant on that contract, but also have the means and willingness to be able to fit him into their cap?

I wasn’t suggesting that either party was going to back out or act unethically. More so, that the Blazers would now try to accommodate a different spot for Grant with that agreed upon contract (assuming Grant would want to consider a different spot with Dame now on the move). Agreed that it would be difficult given the size and duration of his deal.

You have to think the Portland brass evaluated the Grant contract assuming that Dame might leave. It's an overpay - I'm not arguing against it - but I also think Grant will be solid through all of it. And the definition of overpay is about to go up anyway. Plus, I imagine they perceive - not saying this is true - that they can do a quick rebuild.

What are the odds that Lillard intentionally waited to ensure that Grant got paid before making his trade request?

I’m convinced they did that to try to increase the chances he’d want to stay. I really feel Portland is a very poorly run organization that was hidden by Lillards presence.

Pacers got Obi Toppin for just two second rounds picks. Toppin is a better version of Diallo IMO that's not a bad price to pay for Toppin although Toppin is a bit older than I realized at 25 he's actually older than Diallo. Toppin just needs to get that 3 point percentage up to 38-39% range and he'll have a long career in this league even if its as an athletic backup.
