The move is a 7 out of 10 for me. Sure he's a vet on a two year deal. He's in his mid 30s. He's been banged up the last two years. His 3&D prowess will be reliable. How much he has left in the tank is the question.

Great contract, but unless there’s a bigger trade coming, this signals basically running it back. I guess it’s understandable- I just hope Black asserts himself enough to take over PG and accelerate this patient rebuild by the trade deadline.

I’ve always been a fan, hoping he’s over the bad injury. Great personality.

this is what i hope, i hope that they actually have a shot to earn minutes.....if the rookies are better they should be playing

I guess we had to pay somebody. 11 million a year seems like alot for a guy who played 45 games or whatever and averaged 7 points but he adds shooting, playmaking and iq which can help us.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

We payed 11M for reserve but also part time assistant coach. I would not be suprised if he stayed as a true coach after his contract.
Now i would like to see someone like Plumlee, unless Goga mobile kills in practice.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Good pickup, especially with the team option on the second year.

Positionally he makes sense to add to the roster and he shot 41% from 3 last season, good passer, too. By all accounts a great locker room guy. The annual number seems a bit high, but I guess we have to overpay a bit for him to not just sign with some contender.

Just have to hope he doesn't fall of a cliff in his age 36 season and his ACL injury is fully behind him.

Lastly I will say that I hope we're not done. If Joe Ingles is your big summer signing with all this cap space, that'd be severely underwhelming to me. Either a big-ish trade to balance out the roster or a signing a slightly bigger name backup PF/SF or PF/C (I just don't trust JI to stay available at this point) would be needed. Not sure who's still available, though.

This is a very good signing.

ingles will provide Leadership, 3 point shooting and passing.

He might even make the rotation. Even if he does not, his presence will be a big help and only the first year of the contract is guaranteed.

11 million this year towards Ingles is definitely an overpay. But, that money needed to be spent and it was spent on someone that helps solve two issues on the roster, shooting and experience. Not to mention his contract is perfect for helping get trades done.

No real long term commitment either. Not an exciting move that gets people talking, but our front office just isn’t about free agent splashes. When they do sign FAs it’s usually this type of move for short term veteran leadership.

There’s nothing really to say about this one because the Magic have done a deal like this 5 or 6 times in the last decade. The same reasoning still applies.

Overall I think the team will be fun to watch but it’s clear WeHam isn’t going to get them championship ready.

Love it. One of my favorite players in the leaque. Wanted him bad already when we were linked with him 5-6 years ago. Great shooter, probably instantly our best pick and roll player, good passer.

Meh. Not sure what he has left in the tank but I guess we’re banking on his health being an issue last year and his mentorship.

I would have LOVED this ~5 years ago.

Slow Mo Joe is good vet. It will be interesting did they sign him to get fat and clap from bench in suit or there is any interest in actually playing him in rotation.

Two things; this indicates to me that Black probably won’t play minutes @ SF and the FO once again not looking for true opportunities.

Besides that, solid signing. I would’ve loved a Brook Lopez signing, but I guess these lifetime tickets to Disney World were a bit too much..

Look, he's a solid pro and brings some important attributes.

The criticism isnt with him directly. Its the glacial pace of the team's development. The complete inertia to make the moves that make you better quickly.

Miami was a laughing stock of a roster what, 3 years ago? The Suns made their consolidation the minute they knew they had a star in Booker and a maybe star in Ayton. The Pacers pounced for Hali. The Kings for Sabonis, Huerter. The Cavs for Allen and Mitchell.

Meanwhile Orlando, who has arguably the better path to success with two complementary stars at the most important positions for NBA success, plus some.great pieces on decent deals, PLUS ASSETS, continues to tread water.

Wtf are we waiting for? Global warming to end?

Boy does he remind me of the Celts/Bulls hero of the moment!

Backup SF was Orlando's greatest need. And Ingles fits that role nicely. This is a good pickup.

I don't understand the "Will he even make the rotation" takes. He was playing 20 MPG on the number 1 seed last year and doing fine, and our forward depth is horrible unless Isaac suddenly become healthy, which is a long shot to say the least. And his strengths are exactly what the team desperately needs - 3 point shooting, passing and the ability to run the pick and roll.

I'm glad we won't have to see Suggs or Harris play SF this season. Ingles is a good all-around player.

Miami had cap space to/Butler wanted to sign in South Beach.. rest of roster is literally draft guys and undrafted role players who people would categorize as not having inertia with homegrown talent (added Lowry/Love/etc once they were winning)
Booker is an 8 year pro who didn't make the playoffs his first 5 seasons at all
Fox and Kings were 5 years in as well before making the playoffs
Cavs might be a decent comp but still were in a unique position to give Jazz exactly what they were looking for for Mitchell.. TBD if they are better since Mitchell is already having trade rumors a year after he's traded

What is so glacial about it? Just finished season 2 of this with +12 wins despite being super injured. Were we supposed to compete Paolo's rookie year? Hell, before Paolo and midway through Franz and Suggs rookie year while literally JUST trading everybody away?

I think some people want us to speedrun the Hennigan 2.0 train and compete before young guys are even impactful. Paolo won ROY despite being in the 150s as far as like actual player impact.

If Paolo/Franz continue their trajectory especially this year, the rest of the roster is inconsequential in terms of bringing people in.. they will want to join us and trades/ring chasing vets are suddenly easier.

I think the FO was very careful not to take a step back this season. Our players will be a lot more valuable if we make the playoffs this season.
