It depends on their plans for the rookie Jaylen Clark. If they sign him to an NBA contract, they're full. If they sign him to a two-way, there's one open roster spot.

Yes, I posted the same message before . Just by economic factors, you would expect there is going to be around 50 max contracts in the league. Is Towns a top 50 player?

Hell yes! Without a doubt. Just look at his career numbers and shooting percentages. They are elite.

My early takeaways of free agency:

If you are even a fourth starter on an NBA team, you’re going to get paid. Bruce Brown was surprising

If you are better than that, you could get the max. VanVleet was not good in the second half of the season, Bane.

Even rebuilding teams are spending. Sure, star talent generally avoids free agency now, preferring to extend, lock up their money, then get a trade from there. Sounds bad, but this protects the team too, who don’t lose a player for nothing in FA. The spending may have something to do with the new rule saying that if your team doesn’t reach the salary floor at the start of the season, you lose your lux share. But 30 teams want talent, and 30 teams are ready to pay.

Winning teams are still willing to spend over the lux. Let’s see if Brook Lopez joins Khris Middleton back in MIL.

The middle class is getting squeezed. The new Wolves players that made around $5 mil have several games under their belts as borderline NBA starters, and didn’t even get the average salary of $12 mil. If you’re a 6-9th man rotation player, the money isn’t out there for you, as more money goes to the above average players.

I want to see Garza on the team under some sort of contract next season. Hopefully, no other team offers him a guaranteed free agent deal that we are unable to match due to not wanting to run into the luxury tax zone. It is probably best to just give him an offer for a full NBA deal before another suiter steps in... We do need another big on our depth chart with Knight getting released.

I guess that puts Clark at a 2-way deal for the season with Miller getting a 2nd round exception deal.

Yes, just like real life. Middle class get hit the hardest with any kind of tax policy. You are either elite or working class. Now I worry what JMcD will get.

The Bane contract is

I don't know if Bane is max good, but he is a great player. Lights out 3pt shooter with 23 playoff games under his belt in just 3 seasons. We didn't lose to Morant in the playoffs, we lost to Clarke's rebounding and Banes 49% from 3 on 9 attempts per game.

When Detroit finds themselves out of the playoff hunt and starts tanking, I wouldn't be surprised if they buyout Morris and Connelly makes a phone call to get him for the playoff run.

I like Garza but anything more than a two-way right now would probably be a mistake. If we do end up with the extra roster space, a third string bigger bodied center might be the right call. One who fits the system that Finch wants to run but also has decent size in the event that Rudy gets hurt

There’s the new rule about two-ways on the active roster for games, and I was originally thinking the best way to comply is to completely fill up the roster, making one more player a two-way has to climb over. However, leaving a roster spot open actually makes it easier to address an injury situation during the season probably because you can bring someone in without having to waive anyone else.
