Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
I like Lillard like everyone else, but why can't we ever trade for a star under 30?

However I fear that won't be enough and the Blazers will want Maxey. The heat can't offer much, Only Herro, and Caleb Martin, Nets can offer a bunch of picks, but he wouldn't want to do Mikhail Bridges. Are they able to include Cam Johnson?
If not, I think we could still have the best package of picks, players, and Tobias, without Maxey. If we are including Maxey, say we get Dame and Jo, do we still have a max slot for the following summer? If so it would make the trade more palatable, but I would cry my eyes out.
Does Dame had a ‘no trade clause’? Can’t see him being interested in the Nets. Portland has a better team
Don’t see what kind of interesting package the Heat could offer except Herro and picks? Do the my have a big expiring to add?
Boston could offer Jaylen Brown, think that’s the most appealing

Nets offer is probably needs to include Ben for salary matching. And then just a **** ton of picks. Maybe DFS or O'Neale to a 3rd team.
Is Dame, Bridges, Cam and Claxton even a contender? I feel like no...

Shams says Dame told the Blazers he only wants to go to the Heat.

Eh, Dame had his best career, is a catch and shoot player, and a pull up shooter. You don't lose that. He should age like Steph. He should have 2-3 years minimum of elite play.
That being said, he gets traded to Philly and obviously forgets how to shoot.

4 yrs $216M left on that Lillard contract
turns 33 next week and has averaged 51 gms/season over the last 3
doesn't fit next to any of the other guards on the roster

You are going to give things for him and have a worse team.eyeatoma wrote:Lou_23 wrote:This is what we need, other down player like Harden because the first worked very well for us.

To do that I prefer to paid Harden.

It wont be. Did you see what Haliburton and Bane got? That's what Maxey and Klutch will want, especially since they have to now wait until next summer to get it. Think 4-200. I like Maxey, but I don't like Maxey well over 20% of the cap.
Unless he's All NBA this year, in which case he made another big leap and is a full blown star and he deserves it.

Curious about real expectations on Maxey’s extension. $150-180M / 5 years?
Maxey’s extension depends on a couple things. Ultimately, (the quiet part out loud) whether or not we decide to keep building around Embiid next year. Maxey should get at minimum 5/200M as it stands if he becomes an all star this year.
As much as I love Maxey, which is a lot, he isn't a 5/200 guy. I think a lot of teams get caught in this trap. To me, max deals should be reserved for guys who are 2-way studs or a stud 1-way and at a minimum a net neutral on the other end. To me, Maxey is always going to be limited by his height on the defensive end. You can't have 40 mil locked into a player who you have to scheme around or hide on one side of the court (see Ben Simmons).
The advanced metrics certainly are on your side re: the difference b/w, say, Maxey and Haliburton, and to a lesser but still-clear extent Bane. Here's a comparison of Maxey, Haliburton, Bane, and Jerami Grant who, although he plays a different position, just got extended so I thought it'd be good to look at impact. BPM and Value Over Replacement Player. Comparison for 2022-23 alone and comparison for career stats. Grant's VORP is higher in the career stat mode b/c that stat is cumulative and obviously he's played a lot more games than the others. It's the lowest of the 4 if you just look at last year.
And I think that you're right about teams getting caught in a trap. The hard part is that teams can't just pass on extending Player X because they know that Player Y or Z is just around the corner, who will indeed warrant the full max extension. If teams get someone who's even in the conversation, they're tempted to max because (a) if they won't, some other team will and (b) they have no idea if/when they'll get access to a warranted max player like Y or Z.
All of which is sometimes why it's best to trade Player X (Maxey, in this case) as part of a package for someone who's known to have the kind of two-way impact that one wants. I doubt that one of those is available. And for anyone who wants Lillard, he was amazing last year but his age and injury history make him a HUGE question mark over a 2-3 year period and I would NOT do Harden + Maxey for him. (Also because one Dame wouldn't make up for the production loss of two strong players.)
(Not that you were advocating for such a trade.)
Anyhoo, the real point of this point is to show folks some of the numbers behind what you're saying. If the Sixers do wind up maxing Maxey next year the rest of the team will have to built Miami- style by drafting or signing a lot of players who overperform what others thought they could do. And that won't happen with current management.

Sounds like Heat and Nets are the only two teams on his list. Don't waste your time, Daryl.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 2
I don’t think we’ll get Dame unless they’re happy with Clippers contracts & picks. I’m just not sure why they’d want Maxey given the current Scoot/Simons backcourt.
Maybe a Knicks trade could work depending on how Portland values RJ Barrett. But the Knicks would probably rather just cut us out & get Dame instead of Harden.

Man, if Riley can turn that slop they have to offer into Dame Lillard... Wtf man. Especially after being gifted Jimmy for nothing.

Dame's going to Miami and Lowry will be part of the package.
After the Blazers cut him, he will finally go back to Philly with Nurse.
book it

Why Harden is way more washed. My question which no one answers is, will we have another max slot next season if we trade Maxey and either trade Tobias or let him expire. Either one and we could right? In that case team is better.Lou_23 wrote:You are going to give things for him and have a worse team.eyeatoma wrote:Lou_23 wrote:This is what we need, other down player like Harden because the first worked very well for us.

I don’t see Portland wanting Maxey anyway with Scoot and Simons already on the roster.
always a jump shot away.

Bah, I dont think the diference between Harden and Lillard is big.eyeatoma wrote:Why Harden is way more washed. What's going to be the Miami package?
Herro, Lowry, and some picks?
