I am completely mystified as to why we would sign Grant for that completely outrageous contract.
We massively overpaid a player that is not on our new timeline.
Very dumb move.

Agreed.

Wonder if they were working on a SnT and it fell through.

Dame just took care of his friend but I wonder how much bad blood has been accrued

He's under contract and Portland is likely better off just waiting until they get the offer they
can accept. What is the hurry to trade him?

Well…and there we have it.

I’m genuinely surprised Lillard didn’t wait until the deadline. It makes me think there was something surrounding Grant that didn’t work out, but was key to Lillard staying. That being said, I get it from his perspective too…he’s got a family, and it’s a lot easier to coordinate a move during the summer than in the middle of winter and during the season.

I can’t believe that Jerami Grant is now the #1 option on the Trailblazers.

I think Damian was wanting Joe to trade Sharpe and/or Scoot for a vet. That was the only change we had of getting a significant return.

He torpedoed us IMHO. I have no proof of this but it feels off. And IF that's the case I say send him to whomever makes the best offer, Miami, Detroit or ANYBODY in between.

Ironically it worked our well sort of. We needed to move on from Dame even if incompetence is what was the Instigator at least we got there. Hopefully he isn't incompetent at dealing a superstar as him running this show scares me

I have no reason to think Cronin won’t be totally incompetent in this trade either. He’s a unquestionably **** GM.

I think him waiting until the morning after getting Grant 160 million over five years was **** for him to do. I think then leaking it to the public via Haynes was also **** to do - because of the aforementioned Grant signing.

I'm a big Dame fan. I do think the organization, specifically Olshey, failed him. And I don't mind the trade request in and of itself. But I don't think they give Grant 5/160 without Dame's signoff and so I think it's **** of him to wait until that's in place then publicly request a trade. I've been a bit frustrated by his comments since the end of the season of not wanting to play with 19 year olds, which I did feel did Portland a bit of a disservice since teams knew Portland was desperate - I think I made a comment about this in early June or late May when I gregariously wrote that he needed to stop saying it, even though I got his frustration.

Each of those components separate and by themselves I don't mind. Giving Grant 160/5 is rough to see and I think a bad contract, but I'm happy for Jerami he got paid. Power to him. Dame requesting a trade, I get it. Sad day, but I get it. Dame leaking it to Haynes, we all knew that was coming if it ever happened. Expected and no hard feelings. Combined together? Feels kind of **** by Dame.

Prior to this I was fine with making sure he got to Miami, but with the Grant stuff in place I now hope POrtland finds the best deal possible. I don't have faith in Cronin to get that done, but I will hope.

Thanks for the eleven years, Dame. Disappointed it kind of ended with him helping saddle Portland to Grant for that length of time.

I don't get why people want Grant to walk away for nothing. So we can have another season of tanking in a lousy draft year?

Potential trade scenarios

POR/PHI/LAC
Dame to 6ers, Harden to CLIPS, ??? to Rip City

POR/MIA/3rd Team
Any deal with the Heat would likely have to include a 3rd team, and would probably need to include Lowry's expiring deal

POR/BKN
Best potential haul of pics, but any talk of exposing Henderson/Sharp to Simmons feels like Russian roulette

POR/BOS
Dame for Brown (with filler)

Mystery team???
Rip City, baby!!!!

If Spurs interest is real that opens a really interesting gaggle of youngsters and picks.

If we could somehow come out of this with Vassell I would be over the moon. Scoot, Sharpe, Devin is a great trio.

Same feeling here.

Honestly feel like this is what Crolshey wanted. He literally didn’t even try this summer to do what he said. Feels like this is the outcome he wanted despite everything he said publicly.
And ya know what, moving Dame now for me is in the best interests of this team for many years in the future. Sorry but we weren't going to win with Dame, just was not going to happen, and his contract becomes so onerous when he's older and in decline, hamstringing our options. Now we got lucky and already have a promising young core of Scoot and Shae, we'll have cap flexibility when we need it, and be able to have good draft picks the next 2-3 years. And we'll see what assets we get from a Dame trade. And for me I was tired of "dame ball", looking forward to a faster and more interesting to watch brand of basketball, it was so boring the past few years.

Assuming we keep Grant, we should front load the deal as much as possible, making him much more tradeable a few years down the road as the cap likely increases 8-10% a year.

Ugh. Just hope the Blazers don't accommodate Dame by letting him pick his destination. The contract extension was accommodation enough. Dame has $500M reasons to be grateful for his Blazers tenure.

Take the best offer available, and let him go on about how he always wanted to win a 'chip with the Charlotte Hornets and will remain loyal to the franchise that took a chance on him, or whatever. But don't trade him for Otis Thorpe just because he wants out. Do what's best for the franchise. Whether that's a young prospect, pick package, whatever.
Because love can burn like a cigarette.
And leave you left with nothing.

They will. It’s best to accept now that Cronin is going to get a **** trade back. He’s only going to get 20c on the dollar.

I’m so done with Crolshey. He’s everything everyone hated about Olshey, just wrapped in a kinder disposition.

I'll get **** for this, but what if we deal him to NJ for Simmons and Claxton? The idea being that Simmons can play forward for us and Claxton replace Nurk at center. If Simmons continues to be a turd, oh well, he's only here 2 years when we are rebuilding anyway, but if he has a resurgence, it could be a great move. Simons/Grant/Sharpe/Scoot/Claxton...that's a pretty dynamic team.

Woj doesn't think there's going to be a huge market for Dame due to his age and the amount of $$ left on his contract. Simmons is a boom/bust type of move.

Dick is better than Herro. He's not an ISO chucker. Plays off ball. Makes 27 million less per year and his deal is longer

I don't think it would make sense to take on Herro's contract when he's plays a position we already have filled. We'd need to swing him to a 3rd team.
