Next order of business should be to trade a guard for a backup PF or waive Isaac and use that $10M to sign a backup PF.

But I suspect they’re just done with moves.

Don’t worry. We’re Rick Astley of the NBA.

I guess all of them already got one, so Mo resigned with Magic.

Lol let's see Realgmers complain about this one. Solid deal for Moritz who can provide offense from the center position.

The team also played well while he was starting if I remember.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

It's just good business to keep people happy especially if it's your last roster spot. Assuming a 1+1 deal too. Also could easily be a 2nd stringer with the injury luck of our bigs especially. I hope not but we'll see.

$5mil/yr should keep him happy too. $8mil is just too much. just my opinion. he just got through playing 2 years under $2mil/yr for us. $5mil is a nice bump and would have kept him happy

Difference of $3M, $3m is negligible amount in today's NBA where there are contracts going out for $250m for an all star, $200m for second best player on playoff team and $50 for good role players.

Cool. Probably keeping one of the worst defensive bigs in the league to appease his brother. Maybe this helps with their indecision with Bol.

I don’t dislike Mortiz. A backup big that provides offense off the bench isn’t a big deal. Orlando needs the depth I guess.

sets/continues precedent of overpaying for 3rd string/role players.

Wondering if they used their 7 mil exception to resign Mo. Or can you only use the exception after you've used all your available cap space?

Not the biggest fan of this one. I feel like u have 2 3rd string backup c and no real back up. I feel like they need to be more creative. This re signing stuff has to stop at some point. Make real moves for christ sake

He just had his best year in the pros and another year of coaching should make him smarter. I'm surprised he got just 8 million AAV. I'm really glad Mo is back. Showing Franz's brother some goodwill doesn't hurt either.

That offer has a definite "Franz's brother" markup, but still seems a good squad player and should be a good end of bench / spot minutes player. If he's getting 15+ minutes, somethings not right
I still believe in Magic! Welcome to the Franz & Paolo era

Went to 3 or 4 games last season and Mo was either leading scorer or close to it in all of them. Fun to watch.

This deal was done strickly to make Franz happy his brother is on the team.

In business, generally speaking, you should never hire siblings...if one employee gets disgruntled, the other one leaves.

This is the only reason why Moritz was resigned.

Franz seems annoyed at Mo half the time in interviews, I don't think they have that Morris brothers dynamic of needing to be together lol.

At least Orlando Dawg is happy.. well.. not entirely happy until we trade Franz.

Can't rely on Isaac to be healthy, and presumably we don't want Chuma or Bol as the primary backup for Paolo. With that in mind, bringing Mo back to play spot minutes at C and PF seems fine. Bonus if this engenders any goodwill from Franz toward the team.

We'll still likely get five or six games a year where Mo randomly goes off, and even though his defense isn't exactly a stone wall, he seems to really annoy opposing players, which has value, too.

Glad to have him back. He's a nice energy off the bench.

Less than Bamba got past year for a better player and to build goodwill with Franz seems like a win to me.

I think thats where that extra comes in

Correct.

Like the 2 year FVV deal in Houston, if this deal is a team option in year two then the extra $ really doesn’t impact anything for us. It’s just a nice gesture to the Wagner’s which never hurts.
