Meh. Miami would be like Phoenix: a few older name players making lots of money and then minimum wage scrubs. You need 8 decent players to win a championship plus team cohesion.

Literally what free agents have LA/Miami signed that compare the past 5/6 years?
Lebron to LA and Butler to Miami? We've pulled more big time players in the FA market.
Hell we even have an apples to apples comparison. Hayward was recruited by us and Miami and chose us...why? Because of Brad....proving my point that personal relationships are more important today than location, and we still had a hobbled IT on the roster at the time.
Are you really trying to make a case that we've pulled bigger FA's than LeBron or Butler?
Anyways...the truth is unless the Celtics move they won't have a shot at the Butlers and LeBrons of the world because of a number of things that other markets have. Also the reputation of the city is dirt in the league. I hate Kyrie and LeBron but they probably speak for a lot of the players about the city.
In aggregate yes. We have pulled bigger FAs than Miami and LA the past 5-7 years. That is just a fact.
Every year we have had cap space we have signed either the biggest or second biggest FA available. This notion that FAs don't choose Boston is just tired and absurd.
Ill give you some of that. Boston has signed more FAs. But until an actual top 5 player chooses Boston in FA its going to be a thing. Hayward and Horford at the time weren't top 10 players. Those are the signings that Boston has no shot at. Thats when the Glamour markets exist. I mean Butler is definitely not a top 5 guy, maybe borderline top 10 but even with him he was higher up than anyone Boston ever signed.

Add in spo and its game over.
I dont think the celtics beat them in a playoff series.
Brown doesnt make tatum or anyone else better whereas that miami trio all can play off each other.
You may be right. The Cs and any big, splashy moves may be over at this point.
My main concern is honestly Joe at this point. Is he really the guy for this team? Spo will coach circles around him imo if they meet in the playoffs again, even with an added offseason.
In truth, I am not a Joe guy. I do not feel he is fit for this team nor ready to be a head coach in NBA; he's just too young and inexperienced. Charles Lee, Cassell... one of those guys may be our head coach by the all star break and it would be a welcome change imo.

Re: Trade/Free Agency Thread, pt 6, 2023-24
Trading for a 33 year old 6’2 point guard that still 4 years & 215 million dollars left on his deal would be a horrible idea.
We’ve done the score first point guard as the #1 option on this team & it doesn’t work. Dame still probably thinks he’s better than Tatum too so all your going to get is Dame playing like he did in Portland which doesn’t help us at all. Someone like Garland would be perfect for this team.

While I have doubts they will lock down and use the TP-MLE, I am giving some thoughts on who might be squeezed into those slots when money dries up.

The Celtics' problem isn't Lillard. It's that Brown is way overrated and is about to get almost as much money as Lillard.

Well, if all Portland can get for Lillard is Herro, 36 year-old Kyle Lowry and a bunch of second round picks the entire Blazers front office ought to be fired.

I'm very interested to know if Javonte is anywhere near Jayson Tatum this weekend or summer league.

Reminder that in the ECF Miami shot 50% from wide open threes and Boston shot 33% from wide open threes. If both teams shoot closer to league average, not even their own averages, then we win the series easily.
That is not coaching. That is luck.
We don't have to build a team to beat Miami.

Not really. Depending on if they keep Herro and Bam they already signed JRich and Love and have shown an ability to coach scrubs and have a coach 10x better than Vogel

Miami has beaten us in 2 of our last 3 ECF berths. That sure is a lot of luck that we don't have to worry about isn't it?

Giving Grant that contract when they knew Lillard wanted out, seems prima facie evidence for a verdict of guilty by way of insanity.

ESPN had Jimmy Butler rated as the 21st best player in 2019 when the Heat signed him. They had Kemba as the 17th best. In fact, it was basically consensus opinion that Kemba was the better player and bigger get at the time. Obviously hindsight being 20/20 but it just goes to show that the FA mindset

Woooo...
The Utah Jazz are trading center Damian Jones to the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Cavs are absorbing Jones' $2.6 million contract.

Intstead of me saying I would prefer Dame > Brown, I would still prefer 2 Good role players over either.
I would still do D Murray + either D Hunter/Bogdanovic > JB +300 million (35% cap hit etc..)

2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..
