Did Bol Bol already get released? We can’t be at 16.
I would prefer we cut Chuma and take the salary hit that release Bol Bol. But it’s not a big deal losing Bol.

What I liked about Hennigan was that he wasn't scared to make a move. It seems like our current front office is content to just keep trying to improve through the draft, but that so rarely actually works. Too much youth plateau's all that youth. You have to pick a couple and move the other ones for established talent. The current front office seems scared to death to make a big move and it will eventually kill us.
What is the current State of the Magic? To me its a team on the rise that is identifying a core and developing players. What do you think we should do?
12 more wins year-over-year, one of the better improvements in franchise history
Two young rising stars in Poalo and Franz
Three potential rising stars in Suggs, Black, and Jett
Two quality starters in Fultz and WCJ
Wildcard in Johnathan Isaac
Four quality role players in Cole, Harris, Moritz, and Ingles
Some interesting prospects in Houstan, Goga, and Okeke
All our draft equity

Re: 2022-2023 Magic Trade and Free Agency Idea Thread III
It’s weird how so many of the trades which have already gone down were about moving players where they want to go and not prioritising return value for the team trading them. Beal, Porzingis, then Paul to GSW, now Harden and Dame.
Feels like if Orlando is going to trade for a big name it’s going to be someone younger and not one of these fickle veteran stars who up and leave after a season or two.

I'm not ready to give up on Chuma yet.. when he's been healthy and getting playing time, he's been productive. There was a time early in this past season when he was guarding the opposing teams best offensive player.RichCollab wrote:Did Bol Bol already get released? We can’t be at 16.

I'll take that over the occasional Bol highlight.

I feel like the team is stuck in 13-11 seed limbo, not bad to be lottery, not good enough for the play-in. We need to aggregate for a star.

If thats the case, blow it up. Because that would be implying that our young guys are not taking a step forward this year but taking a step back. I don't see how an above .500 team when healthy is stuck in the 13-11 range.

We still have Chuma bukakke truthers. No wonder this FO is so lazy. Most of the fans swallow the chum whole.

The problem is that Orlando is no longer supposed to be in that rut and we should absolutely expect them to take the next step. But instead of focusing and building around the core, they kept just about everyone - including what was already a logjammed backcourt - and added 2 guards in the lotto without having any sort of a plan in place as to how to incorporate them or to improve the team as a whole.
I was convinced taking Black & Howard was the precursor to something else, and even then I didn’t like the draft. It’s now clear that they had no plan.
It really is hard to imagine a more confusing and inefficacious offseason.

That’s the thing I don’t see the team being fully healthy going forward.

Re: 2022-2023 Magic Trade and Free Agency Idea Thread III
It's pretty hilarious how impatient people are acting. The current crop of guards is not going to be here in the next year or two, there will be changes to the roster. Gary Harris is not going to be here at this point next year, possible that guys like Cole, Suggs, Isaac, OKK, Houstan will be sent packing or leave in FA. It's pretty obvious the Magic are setting themselves up for a trade for a star or just below at some point with assets and contract flexibility. This team is not ready to contend yet, until Paolo and Franz become more experienced going hard at FA right now is not smart.

I don’t care about your needs. Call your DR if that’s what you’re looking for. This is a forum to discuss Magic basketball which includes criticism. It’s actually what a fan does.
Thank you for proving my point; and your character.

Do we think the Magic could get in on Herro as a third team in a Portland/Miami swap?
Do we have anything that would be enticing to Portland?

I watch every game. Not saying he's a star or anything, but just want to see healthy and play with the current roster.

Let's see what Lopez ends up getting but I think he earned himself a nice increase in salary. He was one of the top defensive players last year.

ehh, i think thats a little easier playing next to Giannis. because he was never known as a great defender.
Brook got himself a hefty promotion in salary, he was never in the discussion to join the Magic based on those numbers, honestly he earned that money, he was fantastic last year.

The funny thing is I'm going to every board and seeing rebuilding fans confused about logjams/direction:
Magic fans confused about logjam
Pistons fans are confused about how they filled their cap space/being guard heavy
OKC fans similar logjam with SGA/Giddey/Cason/Micic/Dort/Joe
Houston fans pissed about FVV signing and now Brooks signing
Washington fans self explanatory
Jazz fans annoyed Collins is taking minutes from Hendricks/potential big man logjam
It's almost as if things are still incomplete and there's timing involved with a lot of things in regard to future roster

No one (realistically) expected the Magic to go get a supermax player. Heck, seeing the kind of money being given to guys like FVV, Desmond Bane and others makes me glad we’re not out there bidding. Ingles is a decent addition, but he’s complimentary.
And you’re right about the roster looking different next year. Of course you are. It would be nonsensical to think otherwise. This team is still young, but those contracts are coming due. Seems a waste to me to hamstring the capability for proper evaluation of guys like Cole, Jalen, Jett and Black by overcrowding them. There’s one ball, 5 positions and 48 minutes.
I think I read someone defending this guard gluttony as an effort to build depth in case of injury. Not sure if that was before or after the Chuma truther. This thread is producing some spectacular takes. You’d think a fanbase like ours who has watched front office boner after boner after boner produce 15 years of mediocre to bad basketball would be a little sharper around the edges.

I think Fred Armisen lives in the area. Carrie Brownstein should only be a phone call away.

The annoying thing about our guard logjam are the contract implications. A lot of those issues you outlined do not have that issue. Cole and Fultz are both on expiring deals and will not return value this season.
