Welcome Patrick Beverley

Post#1 » by Embiid P » Sat Jul 1, 2023 7:42 pm

Obviously this move isn't going to get us over the hump but Patrick Beverley does bring a certain swag about him and can potentially teach Maxey to become a better defender for his size. Not a bad signing IMO. I wonder if it makes Melton expendable though.

At the vet min I’m down. Let him teach his tricks to Maxey every day in practice.

My issue is simply that Morey's moves always involve former Rockets.

Beverley is whatever and it's clear they aren't offering multi year deals.

But can't Morey find one guy who DIDN'T previously play for him in Houston? Drummond (and probably Curry) were because of Glenn.

Another signing that's a year late. Probably won't even be a player used in April. Still early, but my faith in Morey is draining.

I have no problem with that signing. At all. It’s for vet min.

Sure, as long as it's not the most notable signing of the offseason. Recent history doesn't suggest optimism.

You are here, for a year, if guys start diving into Embiid’s legs like the Nets did you are expected to gnaw there ankles off you surly lil pain in their arse.

Not sure it’s the best trade off when you sacrifice actually being able to play for being tough and gritty. Pat Bev can’t play anymore. Just like Tucker.

Agreed, but Tucker is starting on a three year and $30 million contract, versus Beverly on a one year vet deal on the bench. My hope is that Beverly’s bulldog act reassured them if they can move Tucker with Harden. For all of his tough guy thing I did not see Tucker protecting Embiid last year when guys targeted the big man. I was pretty disappointed in that.

Plus if Beverly gets ejected who cares?

Two things can be true. I don't think anyone can argue this deal is detrimental to the Sixers or can hurt them, but I also think they should be targeting higher upside guys with any money they have to spend. I just don't see any upside to this signing.

Hey we signed a washed minimum player who's not a center. That's progress.

I’m happy that we got him. He’s been a target for years. Unfortunately, he’s old and not as good as he used to be, but for the vet min, whatever. We need more grit.

We still need to ensure that we bring in a primary ball handler/playmaker in a Harden or Tobias trade.

Maxey will ultimately be the man as he should be when harden gets traded

Niang, Melton, Green, McDaniels...

I think former Rockets players here was more about Harden.

Id take Beverley for 1-year $3.2M over Shake for 2-years $10M.
Very glad Morey did too.

Nah Beverly is about to put his all into this season and be in supreme shape because he knows his mentality and his play style is so Philly!!! He’s going to get in the heads of people and get aggressive when embid gets a cheap shot thrown his way. Watch Beverly play some of the best defense he’s played this final year then he’ll retire.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
