i don't think they have a move that's ready to go. but they know at some point they wanna make a trade and someone from the rj/iq/grimes group, if not more than 1, will be gone if they do.

This. You have to see this move not for now, but what it can set up.

Again, this FO totally capable of blowing it.

The backcourt is bursting at the seams now.

It seems unlikely (IMO) they're only setting themselves for a trade because they cannot go into the regular season like this without massive discontent from the players who are the odd man out. The rotation simply can't accommodate this current lineup so I think they have a deal in the works. That fits my take on how this FO thinks and operates.

We talked about this the other day. Knicks coaching staff and FO were presumably in love with Hart and DDV and both are going to be here long term. Last summer with all the speculation surrounding the Donovan trade, one name felt quasi off limits - Grimes. I’ve never believed that this current regime felt that strongly about IQ. And I don’t mean to say they don’t value the guy - the numbers clearly speak for themselves as he’s been one of the most impactful players on the team the last three seasons. I just don’t know if his potential cost (23-25M annually) meets their perceived and future valuation of him.

If anything, they have to be quite pleased IQ's asset value went up considerably in the past year. They may appreciate him, but it doesn't mean they're committed to him.

To have players still on their rookie deal that you picked in the 20s generating that much interest around the league is confirmation their long term asset building strategy has worked to some extent .

we need shooters and donte is one.

He's above average, but not a sniper, he's what I'd call a "good streaky". We need SNIPERS, like...Seth Curry, Yuta Wantanbee. Don't get me wrong, he's good (as a roleplayer) but we have three guys that do what he does, same height, same or better defense...2 are younger and have higher ceilings.

So I don't get all the hype.., To me its like fake symbolic Villa nova fan service hype. Im surprised that Leon has pulled one over on so many of you.

Talent is flying out of the door...First Rose...got nothing, next Obi..got next to nothing, now IQ?...for( if we are lucky) old and injury prone PG13?.

If this all somehow leads us to Embiid or Greek Freak all will be forgiven, otherwise its like meh...

If you only count players who played 2,100 minutes like he did he's the 8th best defensive raptor. So at least we got a great defensive boost today by signing him and trading a terrible defensive player.

40% from 3 last season with good defense. No idea how anyone could think this is a bad contract. Its excellent.
A bum like Dillon Brooks got paid far more.

I think it’s a realistic mid level FA target this season.
