Assuming Dame to MIA actually happens do a 3-team with POR and WAS

White / Wright
Brown / Herro
Tatum
Porzingis / GWilliams
RWilliams / Horford

2nd apron be damned, I love that team

Don't forget about Brissett :)

I feel about that deal like the other way around as when I tried to suggest Hauser for Alex Burks lol.

100% agree that not necessarily in play style but Herro is one of the closest if not the closest to filling a role that Brogdon does. Especially at similar price point so I see the concept behind that kind of deal for sure.

Also feel like Delon Wright could fit as the defensive version paired with him but imo keep the bench guys and trade out Grant for Wright. I think Grant can get a declining deal and that makes a trade easier.

The roster size is essentially a soft cap.

Yeah but in the end these teams have to shed decent young players for nothing like OKC and HOU have been doing since you can't have more than 15 on the team.

Michael Grange @michaelgrange

An interesting player to monitor as the NBA transaction market heats up is Raptors Pascal Siakam. Keep hearing his name out there, per multiple sources. Atlanta still interested. Something to watch.

Rockets really went through all that cap gymastics so they could sign their starting forward of the future, Grant Williams. Wow.

White | Brown | Tatum | Porzingis | Rob
Brogdon | Hauser | Grant | Horford | Kornet
PP | JD | Walsh | Brissett | ?

If we sign Grant, I'd be comfortable with this roster except for at backup PG. I think we still need a competent vet with a bit of size. Not comfortable with PP and JD as our only backup PG options behind White and Brogdon (both of whom are kind of tweeners). First world problems. Other than that, let's roll.

Could Azubuike, who is now on the Celtics Summer League squad, replace Kornet?

Azubuike was a NABC Defensive Player of the year in College. Azubuike had scoring percentages that rivaled Tacko, nevermind Rob...no one can stop him dunking at the rim, he'd be like a mini-Shaq.

Also he was a beast of a rebounder in college.

Azubuike was a 1st round pick, but didn't have his option picked up.

Something to think about...

Here's the relevant article:

https://hayspost.com/posts/5e833088afae0f4d5f5e9a94

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A force inside on both ends of the floor, Kansas senior Udoka Azubuike has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Defensive Player of the Year, as the NABC announced its top Division I award winners Monday.

“I would like to thank God almighty,” Azubuike said. “My teammates and coaches have played a huge role in all the awards I receive. It is a humbling experience. The fans, everybody has played a huge role in me being where I am today. I want to thank the coaches for selecting me for this honor. There are a lot of great defensive players in basketball and to win this award is humbling.”

Azubuike, a senior from Delta, Nigeria, led Division I in field goal percentage at 74.8%, which helped his career percentage of 74.4% break the all-time Division I field goal percentage record of UCF’s Tacko Fall (74.0%). Azubuike led the Big 12 in rebounding (10.5 rpg) and double-doubles (15) and was second in the conference for blocked shots at 2.6 per game.

A unanimous 2020 All-Big 12 First Team selection who was named 2020 Big 12 Player of the Year, Azubuike was the only player in the conference to average a double-double (13.7 ppg, 10.5 rpg).

I want a bruiser center on the bench--and think it's still most likely Grant isn't back. Maybe one of their SL guys from Europe could fill that role, but if they don't have Grant I think they still need another legit big.

And really, you wouldn't be comfortable with PP and JD as your 3rd and 4th string PGs?

WeLikeOurGuys wrote:It’s probably worth losing the TP-MLE if it means keeping Grant. I doubt will find anyone better for the TP-MLE than Grant.

Honestly, I might throw the TPMLE at Dzanan Musa, then sign Bazley to a minimum contact.

Bazley gives you a lot of what Grant did. A PF who can play some small ball 5, gives you defensive versatility (Bazley is better rim protector and also quicker feet out on the perimeter), play unselfish on offense, good cutter, make some open 3's (obviously Bazley isn't as good a shooter as Grant but did shoot 38% from 3 last season and just turned 23 so still developing). Bazley also gives you better length (6'9" with a 7'0" wingspan, as opposed to Grant who is 6'6" with a 6'10" wingspan)

Then you have a bench of: Brogdon, Al, Musa, Hauser, Pritchard, Bazley, Brissett, Kornet, Davison, Walsh

Musa gives you a really dynamic player who can play on ball or off ball. Play him off ball as a catch and shoot guy and cutter. Or play him on ball as a guy who can create his own shot, run PnR. More of a wing but can also play PG, an intriguing skill set at 6'9".

Celtics won't use the MLE unless they trade Brogdon or Pritchard. They are not going to put themselves right on the edge of the 2nd apron, hard capped with very limited flexibility.

Hmm, interesting. So we'd resign Grant at $12.4 mil a year but not use the TPMLE for $5 mil a year?
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)
