Can Grant still be traded? Like a slightly delayed sign and trade?

I don’t see why not. Just cause it wasn’t announced as a S&t shouldn’t matter.

Just wait until Toronto resigns... ah never mind, those players just leave for nothing.

Bruv, a lot of folks have been demanding the Raptors move on and away from vv and siakam

You haven't seen the vv signs with Houston thread yet on the Raptors board, haven't you? The amount of joy in that thread....

People keep talking about Grant's trade value but it's pretty obvious that the Blazers have decided to keep him for a couple years.
He's only 29 and Scoot + Sharpe + Grant + whoever they get by trading Lillard or through the draft is Portland's core for the future.

Given all that has happened since 3:01 last afternoon, I'm not as sour on this deal as I was. Don't get me wrong, it is still bad. But not as bad.

1. Given the other horrible deals around the league, I'm convinced that another team would have offered Grant a 4/120. At that point it was either pay him, or lose him for nothing (ie not an empty threat).
2. Had he not signed Grant, and then Dame asked for a trade, the narrative would have been that Cronin's ineptitude to resign our own free agent is the reason we're losing Dame. Cronin would have lost his job.
3. The cap is going up soon with a new TV deal (though gradually, according to the new CBA). By the end of the deal, it will look like a 22 million a year in today's cap figures.
4. Grant is a good two way player, in a position of need. He'll give the Scoot-and-Sharpe show a chance to be competitive most nights.
5. Cap space isn't as valuable as we thought. If the best Houston (a major market, with no sales tax) could do is to massively overpay FVV, having Grant at this price isn't too bad.

Maybe it's the eternal optimist in me. I'm fired up about the Scoot-and-Sharpe show!

I try not to put myself though readying the Raptors board now days. I read a bit of that board last offseason and people were talking about Barns being a future MVP. No idea why people would be happy about losing VanVleet. Best of luck with how it turns out. I guess both of our franchises could use a bit of luck about now.

IF there is any thread to at least skim through on the Raps board, this is the one. Never has there been a Raps thread so joyous with happiness and no arguing

However, if you have watched enough vv hijacking the offense and jacking up crap from beyond the arc and getting stuffed constantly at the rim, and followed what he has said in various media outlets, there isn't much to write home about.

POR rolling with Scoot and Sharpe is a damn good thing. The future is bright in Portland, outside of the rain.

Head up!

and they can front load that contract and in a few years with the 8-10% cap increases it will be very tradeable

That is a good point.

How does that Grant contract break down? We got any details yet?

Nothing yet, as far as I know just years and amount has been agreed. Probably still time to work out details like front loading… which I would think Grant would want too.

What is the likelihood that both sides agree to scrap the deal?

Could be a possibility. Not sure what the likelihood is.

Yep, exactly what I’ve been saying. I don’t think trading Grant is even on the Blazers minds for at least a couple years. Once he has like 3 years left on his deal, then we’ll see.

I personally really like Grant, and when I think of our rotation 1-3 (if Thybulle returns) will be this for the next 4-5 years, I get sooo happy.

Simons / Scoot
Sharpe / Thybulle
Grant / Little

Yeah I have no idea how this sequence of events happened, so Cronin talks to Dame and those talks seem to go well. They then offer Grant a huge contract, and then Dame asks out? Huh wtf?

If Cronin just offered Grant that deal on the basis that he wasn't sure what Dame would do that is just bizarre and a really stupid move. Cronin has proven himself to be a pretty damn bad GM if he had no clue that Dame might request a trade even after offering Grant $160 million. Now if Grant was say 25 or something we could view him as a potential piece even in a rebuild but by the time this contracts ends Grant will be 34.

Again I also would have less issues with the contract at 4 years or 4 years with a team option for 5.

What I want to know is who were we bidding against? Why did we have to do 5 years $160? What was his next best offer?

It's all speculation at this point, but I guess 4/120ish. Indiana may have offered him that. Instead, they overpaid Brown.
Grant may have said that without the 5th year, he would take another offer.
At that point, it was either call his bluff, let him walk for nothing, or give in.
If Cronin lets him walk for nothing, the Dame trade request would have been construed as a reaction to letting Grant walk.

Yep Blazers basically need to add a few front court players, or maybe even less if Murray turns to be a capable starting level contributor, and we are set.

I'm subscribing to the theory that we agreed this with Grant when we asked him to sit out the season and tank.

Given we ended up with Scoot, who would be a #1 pick in many drafts, I'm warming to the contract all things considered.
