Hopefully management put some sort of clause in his contract where he can't dress like a complete clown anymore without facing stiff penalties

Green is 32 years old. That $25M a year is going to be pretty rough when he is 35.

…beat me to it. Actually Green is 33. He’s 5+ yrs older than Kuz.

True, he should have gotten a 2-year deal at his age (didn't know he was that old :o ), no team options either.

The Celts had to pick up his option to include him in the trade.

I expect he will get significant minutes. He shot 40% from three on 3 shots a game. Jay Huff too. It will help Poole to have room in the paint and I suspect the Tyus-to-highpost pick and pop game will become a useful weapon to invert the court.

Someone will have to pick up rebounding duties, but that will be true no matter our personnel. Kuz, Deni, Xavier Cooks. Everybody. Johnny Davis rebounds well from the 2nd line, BCool looks good in the highlights on offensive putbacks. But in general I expect us to get smoked on the boards no matter who we've got.

When a player is suppose to be asking for 30 and we get them for 25…. We needed to get above the minimum…. Do not think he lasts past next offseason….

No but I think that might be the idea. It's not a bad contract we needed to spend the money. And there will be more teams willing to take a shot on him at the deadline when there are A.seasons and possibly jobs at steak and B. You won't be hardcapped by doing it like they would have with a S+T

I won't belabor my unhappiness with this signing, but I don't buy the we gotta spend the money on something argument. If we'd signed him for one year, 30 million maybe. But the longterm deal seems to indicate we think he will be valuable to us or another team at this salary level. I certainly think he has no value to us, and it's hard for me to imagine another team giving more for him than for whatever we could have gotten instead (the opportunity cost). A Joe Harris deal would have been far better.

The only way I like this deal is if wuj gets fired and replaced with a coach who is willing to reign in Kuzma or wuj suddenly becomes a much better coach.

Yeah... there's no real question about it. On basketball value, it's a ridiculous over pay. If it was a matter of making the minimum, then, as willbcocks points out, we could have given him a declining-value contract -- everybody wants the money sooner!

Above all... who were we competing with? Kuz's contract, like any similar decision, should reflect a market -- supply & demand.

It's a waste of money, but it's not my money so why should I care?
Nor is it going to hold back the rebuild by improving our record -- Kuz isn't good.

It's possible that this was a "marketing-&-sales" decision. After all, without a single recognizable name on the roster, it might have been difficult to move seats. & no central image either, around which to build marketing longer term.

So maybe the decision to ink Kuzma was based on Ted's input?
We always like to blame Ted, don't we? Yes we do!!!!

My real issue is missed opportunity -- & that's based on the notion that Houston was maybe interested in Kuz -- wch, of course, may not be true. But, if they'd wanted him, we might have been able to accelerate our rebuild significantly by using Kuz in some kind of a deal to get Martin, TyTy, & Garuba, all three of whom Houston just traded for not much.

Sure hope so. This deal takes away any flexibility if Deni has a solid year 4 and locks up an extension, and we extend Kispert the following year at 16-18/per.

I have no issue with Kuz’s style game, it’s part of celebrity culture, I am more concerned with his street ball style of game.

If he was a good player, I wouldn’t care either. But he seems more interested in figuring out to get publicity than figuring out how to play smart efficient basketball.

Is it that he is an inefficient and irredeemable player, or that he’s playing for a poorly-constructed team and has to do too much? (Or feels he has to do, or is told he has to do.)

There’s also this, which has him rated pretty darn highly.

Wow... just wow. I was really giving this team some credit. Sigh.
