Wade is cheap, a better defender, and can play some SF. I was interested in Wood on a cheap prove-it deal, but not after signing Niang.

Since it seems they're trying to avoid the tax this season, I doubt Wood comes here for like $6 million, he just made $14 million last year. Outside of his attitude issues this could also be why he's still a free agent, overestimating his value.toooskies wrote:Thinking about a Dean Wade for Christian Wood sign and trade... If he comes to the conclusion he's not going to get paid, he'll probably either ring chase or sign with the team offering the biggest role, which I don't think CLE would be leading candidates for either choice.toooskies wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:Since it seems they're trying to avoid the tax this season, I doubt Wood comes here for like $6 million, he just made $14 million last year. Just saying there aren't a lot of teams left to pay him. A S&T for $6m might be his ceiling, depending on what happens with Harden and Lillard.

He's not going to start anywhere but I think he'd be our third big.
Hopefully that's Jones.jbk1234 wrote:toooskies wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:If he comes to the conclusion he's not going to get paid, he'll probably either ring chase or sign with the team offering the biggest role, which I don't think CLE would be leading candidates for either choice.

I don't think we use that much of the MLE on Niang to turn around and sign Wood. Also, at least one of your bench bigs needs to be able to defend a chair.

Hopefully, Jones is an emergency backup.

I'd play Wood in Love's minutes and Niang in Osman's minutes.

Niang will get Love's minutes and whoever backs up Strus will get Cedi's minutes.

That's the thing though, Niang getting Love's minutes is going to kill our bench rebounding. Neither Allen nor Mobley are elite rebounders, nor do we have any plus rebounding wings.
Maybe Wood isn't the answer but I'm not as sold on Wade being good as much as you all are.

I think the problem with rating Wade is that we have seen hypothetical Wade over a large-ish sample so we assume that that is Wade. I mean, it could be, but in reality he's probably a solid to alright back-up 3/4. At the beginning of the 22-23 season he looked like the starting wing we needed.

I don't see LeVert dropping much below the 30mpg he played, nor do I see Okoro dropping much below his 22mpg. This feels like a case of the minutes likely being split between one of Wade and Niang, along with Strus getting the other half (~27mpg).

It's difficult to predict injuries, but LeVert's minutes were a little inflated by Garland and Okoro missing games. I suspect Okoro's minutes are tied to Rubio's knee. Is he part of a three guard rotation, or a 4 guard rotation?
But if Strus doesn't get more minutes than Cedi did, that's an L. You're paying him a lot more money.
When healthy, someone, maybe even 2 will have to get squeezed out. If Rubio is still cooked, you're right, that's a good option to bench.toooskies wrote:jbk1234 wrote:mcfly1204 wrote:Last season, between Osman, Stevens, Wade, and Love, you had 4,380 minutes played, which breaks down to 53.4mpg. I think of we are trying to get more shooting on the floor then Rubio doesn't see the court.
