Horford and Porzingis as a PF/C duo would be pretty unusual floor spacing from those spots. Might open a pathway to play someone like Banton more on the perimeter.

Really, any of the non-Rob minutes should create a similar opportunity. The only shaky path is if Brad channels his inner DarrenDaye and gets Garuba. But then, Garuba hit over 40% from 3 last year, albeit very small sample size and likely low pressure situations.

I DO remember Banton kicking the Celtics tail in a ... preseason 4th quarter, maybe? Intriguing prospect. I like the body types Brad's going for!

He's more like a lesser Giddey/Scottie Barnes/Ben Simmons/Anthony Black/Shaun Livingston

This archetype usually ends up being very good players. Banton is not as good as those other guys obviously but there's definitely some upside.

Man, Brad is delivering the djFan off-season. Walsh, horse trading for 73 future 2nd round picks, signing a bunch of tall guys who can defend or pass, and cut, not caring if they can shoot? Get out of my head, Stevens! Just don’t sign a supermax deal and I can retire as a poster too.

Oh and that Porzingis move might prove helpful as well.

This dude wasn't even on my radar prior to this offseason but seems like a really fun pickup. Was starting to look like we could have a really small backcourt overall if the idea was to play Pritchard more minutes, but at least Banton would give us more options.

I assume it's the same deal as Oshea with a 2nd year player option?

2nd year is team option, unlike Brissett.

I don't think either of these signings were super competitive as both Toronto and Indiana had no interest in keeping them. But both had particular niche traits, lengthy and active moving on offense, that is sorely lacking on the team and make them appealing here. Last offseason I had Bruce Brown as my 2nd most favored free agent target for this reason.

With Banton particularly, this will be a good test for the team's developmental aptitude and environment to see what he is particularly in 2024/25.

I didn't watch too far, but I didn't see any jumpers at all -- or any passes other than from right under the basket. And yes, he was able to get to basket with the ball from the perimeter, not just in the open court.

There are players who can be really good if given a proper chance to develop. I have no idea of how good or not Banton can be. But there are definite upside and tools he does possess. He has some speed and fluidity that make him "Guard like" His passing appears to be a plus. So does his cutting ability/desire. As mentioned above I have not even seen his jump-shot in any video. But who knows. Maybe he can be a diamond in the rough.

He is 6'9..

Does his skill set compliment Tatum perhaps?

We all know how good and/or heavily paid FVV turned out. Now imagine Toronto never giving him a chance. Where would he be today without that chance? Probably not even in the NBA.

Anyone who can get open without Tatum having to dribble to create a passing lane is a compliment.

Failed to mention that I have always loved tall rangy players who can switch everything. Perhaps this is too hopeful. But if he could actually develop onto a starting or rotation level PG, think about that size it can bring to the team overall.

Toronto does not know how to evaluate and nurture talent; I will trust Celtics to figure out how to unlock this guy
