And Nico brought, Wood, giving first round pick for him. Mavs don't want him anymore. McGee for 17 mio, unplayable and untradable. Dorsey, back in Europe after few months. Ntilikina, he can't play even in Europe and our mascot Pinson. Sorry but those past actions don't exactly bring confidence in our management, especially if first moves in this year's market are Powell, Seth and Dante, who don't fix any needs. We all hope that they're not done, but criticism is well warranted after everything that happened in last years.
It's one thing to criticize and second guess the FO, but it's annoying when forum fans display a lack of understanding when it comes to free agency, salary cap & CBA rules. Yes, the Mavs need a rim protecting big who can switch & hit the 3 and a long, athletic 3&D wing - Guess what? Every one else in the NBA needs those players! The Mavs only have $12.4M to spend. Of all the signings that have been announced, only a few were under the amount the Mavs are allowed to offer and just because the Mavs are interested in a player DOES NOT mean that player is obligated to sign with them. I can't stand DP, but I get why he's with the team: he knows the system, the coaches trust him and Luka wants him here. If he's only playing 10-15 mins/game, he's fine. Signing Seth means the Mavs can move THJ. Exum is a low risk/high reward move. Re-signing Kyrie was a big win, no-brainer move. Offers to RFAs can't be made before July 6 and there's multiple trades in the works which will require additional partners. I'm certainly not saying the FO is above criticism (signing McGee ffs), but every off-season, people whine that the Mavs didn't sign players whom they could not afford to pay. Until free agency is over, calm down and let the processes play out. They have 2 superstars, 2 emerging stars and 2 exciting rookies. That's pretty incredible given how asset poor they were last off-season.
Look. If anyone from us buy a luxury car, we better know how we will finance other necessary aspects of our living. I don't believe, sorry wife and children, we bought sports car, so we can't afford anything else, will be met with understanding. At the moment our GM traded for Kyrie he should have had a plan, how he will fix all other holes in the roster. And don't forget, we semi tanked to get 10th pick in this draft. But our GM again rather took a gamble on defensive C, who might or might not help Mavs few years in the future, then fix a hole or 2 with a trade. All those GM's decisions are legit, after all he's paid for making difficult decisions. But if he can't pull his plan off, it's not because he didn't have enough assets on his disposal, or was unlucky but because he made a mistake, a mistake that can cost Mavs a lot.
What ever they do in remaining of offseason, Mavs will still have to many players that play no D, so Seth for sure isn't good fit. I watched Dante in Euroleague and he had very solid season, but for the things he does best you have Luka, Kyrie and Hardy and then you have few other players, who are playing on 2. It's very unlikely that he will even get an opportunity to show something.
Process is playing out no matter what we fans think or do. We're here to express our thoughts, hopes, fears...not to support our GM. All of you that feel need to school us, how we should feel about certain things, better understand, we're not your kids.
