2029 is 6 years out. Giannis isn't gonna wait until the team falls apart. It's now or never. Bucks are to predictable last 3 or 4 years. Same players almost. Heck almost same team yet again barring two rookies and a new coach. Middleton and Brook older and paid more. Yeah we lost Carter and Ingles. But landed Malik and Robin. Still need a Bobby,Pat,Allen and 2029 first trade for something good yet.
It’s incredibly short sighted to trade a first in a year Giannis isn’t even under contract (and would be old if he is) for a marginal asset. The Bucks 2029 first is valuable, let alone the opportunity cost of not having it when the opportunity to trade for an actual superstar opens up.
There’s just no way to rationalize trading a first that far out for Sexton when you’re attaching good players to the deal as well. We’d be losing key players in our rotation AND one of our few trade assets for a non All Star, with zero ability to replace those players because we’re stuck paying guys league minimum in a non-destination city.
Imagine we trade our 2029 first and next year SGA becomes available, but we’re out of the race completely because we burned that pick on Sexton.
2029 first is only valuable if Giannis is retired or on another team then full tank mode.
Giannis’ game relies so much on his freakish athleticism. Setting LeBron level expectations for his game to age that well at 34 is a bit naive. He’s already been battling through nagging injuries the past few years. Six years is a long ways away.
