'Celtics make the Smart choice and trade Smart'.
I don't agree with this completely but it's worth watching.

The clips of Marcus trying to hit pocket passes were painful.

Brogdon had some painful TOs too.

Smart definitely wasn't a perfect player. I do think when you run a compilation of all his turnovers he looks worse than he was lol

Overall though, I'd say Brogdon had less painful TOs, and was a better/smarter decision maker with the ball. Plus was a much better shooter. All of which outweighs the advantage Smart had defensively - as evidenced by Brogdon being the better player last season by pretty much every advanced stat. Brogdon also played in 6 more games so it's not like you can say "oh but Brogdon is injury prone"
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Dont know who does those videos, but they touched on a point I do agree with.
Tatum is best served as a PF, imo.
And that, ideally, helps limit the dumbass crap that Brown does on the court with the ball.
Brogdon/Pritchard/Banton
White/...../Walsh
Brown/Hauser/Brisset
Tatum/Horford/Griffin
Porzingas/Timelord/Kornet
Pretty solid team althouugh I prefer Brogs leading the bench so that means we need a starting sg or pg.
Maybe Suggs would be great for that "'In Waiting role"
Terrence Davis?
Mann?

Those Smart clips are absolutely brutal.
Hard to say who had more lowlights last year--Smart or Brown.

Like I said in the other thread where this was posted, this was like the back end of an old DX or one of the box and one draft videos.
That said Smart did seem to have a lot of old Rondo style influence the past year or so. Ie, slow ball, run a lot of action and hit a pin point pass, left open too much since not a scoring threat.
We’ve talked a lot about shooting and spacing but I really do think just as impactful was the lack of dribble drive and ball movement. Always loved watching him as a player but very curious to see what this team looks like and how it changes (and not to pile on but the “dust up between players and upper management” was assuredly Smart and I’m also curious how much that played into it (but we’ll never know that one).

Brogdon and second(s) to Clippers for Batum, Mann and a little cash to make it work.
White/Pritchard/Banton
Mann/Batum/Walsh
Brown/Hauser/Brisset
Tatum/Horford/Griffin
Porzingas/Timelord/Kornet
I can get behind that.

Don't hate the trade, but listing Batum as a guard is wild lol

To my eyes, Brogdon's decision-making seemed in most cases to boil down to keeping the ball himself and scoring at a decent clip. Stats are supportive of my eyes. His ratio of FGAs to assists wasn't quite double Smart's ratio, but it was somewhere in that range.

He did at least have a .615 TS% to Smart's .538.

Based on this video you would think Smart had a horrible assist to turnover ratio but he didn’t. I think it shows how he could get lackadaisical and showy leading him to make some really bad decisions at times.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

And that has been characteristic of the bulk of the team for years now.

Another under reported reason why its a good move is the league is now going to penalize flopping. I assume star players won't be hit with anything but a role player like Smart might end up being unplayable at times.

Are they gonna penalize whining too? If so, it's past time to get that Grant S&T done.

I guess the biggest part of this for me was that Coach Nick pointed out that Derrick White replacing Smart's minutes improves efficiency in almost all categories. Derrick White makes Smart dispensable from a statistical POV.

The thing about videos with small samples to support pre-determined conclusions is that they only work forfteen percent of the time, just like statistics that are made up eleventy three percent of the time to support an argument.
Marcus was a winning player for us 79.3% of the time on days that ended with a Y, but could do some stupid plays 12.11% / π of the time at the end of a lunar cycle. Everyone knows that.
