I've been up north so I haven't had a chance to really post on the Free agency period yet which is kind of nice because I can look at it as a whole as opposed to overreacting to each individual move. Overall I like each individual move that was made, yet the offseason so far feels underwhelming. I think bringing Khris & Brook back were good moves, I think bringing Jae back on a 1 year deal is a worthwhile risk to take to see if he's truly washed or if last year was a rust/small sample size anomaly, I'm fine with bringing in Rolo to eat innings during the regular season(plus it's fun from a fan perspective), Beasley on the vet min is good value even if he has warts that may lead to him being benched in the playoffs. The 2nd round picks I thought were fine and the 2 ways seem interesting. But while I like each move individually when I look at the below depth chart

Jrue/Gortman*
Grayson/Beasley/AJJ
Khris/Pat/MarJon/Moore*
Giannis/Crowder/Livingston
Brook/Bobby/Robin

It just feels like we're mainly running it back but with a worse coach in all likelihood(I know I'm higher on Bud than 95% of this board). It's just tough to get excited when our big additions are 2nd rounders and vet min guys so far. Obviously we're not done since we have no backup PG at the moment and seem overly deep at the 2/3 spots so there is still time for my opinion to change. But I was certainly hoping for more. Sexton would be great but I'm hesitant to give up the 29 1st rounder. Idk I guess we'll see how Horst finishes off this roster. I'm sort of expecting Thanasis & Aaron Holiday signings and bringing AJ Green back on a 2way deal which again would all be fine moves but underwhelming as a whole

If you think losing Bud isnt a giant upgrade, then yes, you'll probably be disappointed in the offseason no matter what

Yea if you ignore all my comments about putting protections on it.

As Ron and others said. The more accurate argument is hoarding it for a bigger package next year. Not that mass Bucks pessimism that we're bound to always suck and everything that can go wrong will go wrong. The hoarding it argument is fair to me and totally get that line of thinking to hold off on good not great players like this. The sky is falling and we're gonna suck in 5 years doesn't hold much weight

The problem with protections is it even further limits what picks you can trade because that pick may be conveyed at a later date. Protections solve nothing. We shouldn’t trade a first for a non-superstar.

Too early to judge the off-season, season doesn't start for 3.5 months. Lots of time.

You can set up the protection such that if it's protected in the initial year, it conveys in some other form, like a 2nd, or seconds, or is just extinguished entirely.

Especially considering we can't do Jrue for Dejounte/Bogdan until September.

A first doesn't get you a superstar, multiple firsts do. Given what we gave for Jrue, we don't have that ace in the hole. There are, however, numerous examples of teams trading a first and getting a championship out of it. See, Gordon Aaron who's defensive versatility was a pretty major component of Denver's success in the playoffs.

If Dame is on the table this summer, obviously save it for that. If not, we don't have the luxury of waiting given the age of our core. It's now or never.

This is probably a big part of it, I strongly disagreed with the firing of Bud. But I also am open to seeing what Horst does, but I'm of the belief that the playoff rotation needed some sort of shakeup and so far that just hasn't happened. I'm not sure what that specific move is and it's impossible to judge Horst considering we don't know what moves were available to him. I will say if fully healthy I think we're as talented as anyone in the league, I think we likely go b2b if Khris didn't get hurt and would have atleast gotten to the finals if Giannis didn't get hurt this past year. But I just don't trust our current core to stay healthy and/or not take a step back due to age. It just feels stale right now which might ultimately end up being a good thing, but I would have preferred some sort of shake up to the playoff rotation

100% agree, but the shakeup of that playoff lineup would not have come in free agency. It will be from a trade.

Beasley is 26, shoots threes at a huge volume, and is not coming off of a big injury. I dont think theres any way we go into the playoffs with both he and Grayson on the team. So i agree. Its coming, just no idea what that will be

Did they trade Eric Jensen (tired), DJ Shawna (third-rate) or Melanie Ricks (obnoxious) yet?

Hayes is probably my biggest draft whoopsie. I think he is starting to figure it out, though. I did have Wiseman outside of my top-15 and Maxey in my Top-5 to balance it out.

Just trying to think of names we haven't... thought of.
