Ranking the Suns players #6

Post#1 » by bigfoot » Wed Jul 5, 2023 10:18 pm

To keep us active during the slow summer let's steal an idea from the general board and do a ranking of the Suns players counting down from #1 to #15.

Starting off the poll for the #1 player will be Ayton, Beal, Booker, and Durant.

Choose your top remaining player and then suggest who you would like added to the poll for the next go around (e.g., Payne, KBD, Gordon, etc). Mods please help me update (and maybe pin thread) as I will be traveling for the a good part of July. Will start off with a weekly ranking and the accelerate the pace as the season approaches in October.

#1 Devin Booker (74%)
#2 Kevin Durant (88%)
#3 Bradley Beal (88%)
#4 Deandre Ayton (82%)
#5 Eric Gordon (59%)
#6 Keita Bates-Diop (48%)

Added Eric Gordon
Added KBD
Added Yuta
Added Okogie
Added Eubanks
Added Goodwin

I vote Diop mostly because I believe he should be starting. Though EG is up there too.

Payne is a wild card, because I could see him losing his rotation spot depending on if he gets injured and Goodwin playing well with the opportunity given to him. At the same time, I could see Payne tearing it up since he's in a contract year. For now, Diop and EG though.

Better to have more threads like this one instead of beating dead horse on hypotheticals like in the other thread. In the long offseason would be interesting to compare our players to other teams' rosters too.

Tough choice between Booker and Durant, but after last playoffs performance voting for Devin.

Based on the poll so far 1-4 are clear. Then it becomes harder to choose, but I'm picking Yuta.

Exactly why I put this together. It was getting a bit stale after JJ finished his free agent frenzy. Fortunately summer league games are just a couple days off.

I think it would be interesting to see how we evaluate this again maybe come January timeframe. Very well could be that Beal is better than Durant, or maybe something else interesting. Who knows.

Booker, KD, Beal, Ayton in that specific order for me. Next on list should be Okogie I guess.

Yeah, I am a big Booker fan and I am not sure if he is better than Beal.

He played better than him lately but the Suns were competing for a championship and the Wizards weren't even a play-in team.

Actually, surprised it's not two votes - sunsfan101 and Kdoubles, though the latter started posting around the time KD joined. SlimCharles is suspicious too, but he's trying to trade DA lately. Could be an Ayton hater to stir shhiit up as you said. It's just a conspiracy theory on my side though.

Initially thought Beal is easily 3rd, but thinking more about it anything close to '21 DA could be more important for this team considering the overlapping skills on the perimeter.

I honestly thought (think?) it was a joke... :o
And commented on it as such, so pls no hard feelings on it if it wasn't a joke by whoever made it.

Yeah, I am a big Booker fan and I am not sure if he is better than Beal.

He played better than him lately but the Suns were competing for a championship and the Wizards weren't even a play-in team.

I think Beal was better for a couple of years but that's only because he entered the league earlier and had time to be on a winning team sooner. But Book caught up pretty quickly. I thought the crossover point was probably in Book's 3rd or 4th season in the league. And while Book elevated himself even further over the last 3 seasons, Beal reached a peak and then came back down while Book continued to improve. That's not surprising given Book entered his prime a season or so ago while Beal arguably entered his half a decade ago now.

So yeah, I don't agree Beal is better than Book, certainly not right now but in the past, sure. I mean, Beal was a 3rd team All-NBA selection 3 years ago while Book was the #1 SG in the league a season ago with that 1st team all-NBA selection. And I think Book is even better this year than last year.

That said, I think Beal is getting seriously slept on by a lot of fans because he hasn't played competitive basketball in Washington which has been a **** show of mismanagement for the past decade. Nobody is watching the Wiz
