Xavier Cooks - Washington Wizards

Cooks is in the second season of a multi-year deal with the Wizards, so he's entering Summer League with no real need to fight for a spot. Because of that, don't expect the reigning NBL MVP to suit up for more than one or two games in Vegas.

Of course "bomb" has two different & opposite meanings. In that sense, I'm with nate -- "firecracker" is better.

Cooks only got to play 124 minutes, but he was pretty productive.

Kid was MVP of a pretty tough league. No reason to count on him, but no reason to count him out either.

Has anyone even payed attn to 2023 FIBA basketball. One of the breakout stars is Xavier Cooks of the Aussies. In 19.5 mpg he is avging 14 pts/7.7 rpg. and last game got 10 offensive rebounds.
Tonight its Luka (Slovenia) against Australia (Exum,Green ,Giddey,Thybuille and Cooks) .

I've been following, but the games are at odd times. Cooks had a big game against Japan, but nothing against Slovenia and Germany.

With his lack of bulk at 183 lbs, and not being a good shooter, he doesn't seem to fit well in the NBA. I didn't understand the signing.

US had trouble with Montenegro today. Amazing they have a good team with a population of 600,000. Vucevic was good and we have a lack of bulk to stop other teams inside. Again we got off to a bad start and were saved by the Reaves/Halliburton 2nd team.

Cooks only played 124 minutes for us last year -- obviously not enough to rely on in forming a view of him. That said, he played extremely well in every facet of the game, except that he was not a volume scorer. Yet, his TS% was above average for a combo forward (& would have been higher if he hadn't gone 4-10 from the FT line! ).

What he did do extremely well was rebound the ball, especially on the offensive end.

Not making any claims for him, but he wasn't a scorer in the NBL either, yet he was league MVP!
