Also, it's difficult to get any reasonable cap space once you factor in Maxey's $13 million cap hold, Bball Paul's contract, Harden's potential deal, and Melton needing to be paid.
Let's assume we only have Embiid, Tucker, Springer, Bball ($5 million), & Springer on the books next summer. That's $84 million without factoring in Melton, Tobias, or Harden. The cap this coming season is $136 million. If they extend Melton for $16 million/year you don't even have max cap space left and you'd be letting Tobias and Harden walk for free.
I wouldn't be surprised if he trades Harden to the Clippers for two firsts, expirings, and Mann. Then flips one of our 1sts, one of the Clippers 1st, Maxey, and Tobias for Dame.
Dame
Melton
Mann
Tucker
Embiid
is a pretty damn good team. Consolidating Maxey & Harden into Mann & Dame makes some sense. It's hard to fit Harden & Embiid with Maxey once he gets a new deal. I just don't see how we trade for someone like Lavine. The money doesn't add up. Consolidating is something Morey likes doing. It makes sense on court and also for the cap.
Basically trading Harden + Maxey for Lillard + Mann is a major downgrade. You're trading 2 stars for 1 star with a terrible contract and a role player.
No chance Morey does something like this.
